Hi, tomorrow will be week 6 of the 5:2 diet and I'm falling off the wagon a bit! Is this normal? Weight loss slowed and I think I am panic eating on non fast days. I have primary school kids and it's tough feeding them on fast days. Last week I was doing ok on a fast day and then just before I went to bed I had half a mars bar, so I undid all my hard work. Any hints or tips on re-focusing my efforts. Thanks AB
The most important thing to remember is "don't beat yourself up"!!

So you've had a failed fast day? Oh well! I bet you still ate less than you would on a normal day? See - you didn't fail after all!! :D

Onwards to the next one and I bet you'll be OK. :)
Thanks jemima, I have read some other posts that mention monthly weigh ins. Maybe thats a good idea and less disappointing. You are right tho, even on a tough fat day I have still eaten far less than a normal day. Thanks again AB
Ironic.....my iPad auto spell check changed the words Fast Day to Fat Day!
I'm a couple of week's ahead of you & I really struggled at 6 weeks. Seems to be ok again now but I was really hungry all the time. Be kind to yourself & hang in there.
How do you eat your cals on a fast day? I do find it much easier to save them all for dinner. Also I don't really worry if some days I go over 500cals, as I know on others I will go below. If you are really hungry in the evening either save some cals for a snack or say "hey another 50 or 100 cals is not a disaster" and have an apple or banana or something even if it does take you a bit over.
Had a good day but hungry now & just had a pear...
Hey!!! I would say "well done" !!! you had HALF a Mars bar??? HALF??? since when does anyone only have HALF???? LOL (ok, I could only eat half of one when I was about 10!)
You're talking only about 150 cal for half??... that's nothing!! that's a Muller corner but would that be ok cos its a 'yogurt' ??

Keep doing what you're doing, you sound like your doing great to me!! ;)

JB xx
Thanks to everyone for the pep talk! I'm fasting today, will have porridge and fruit breakfast at 7.30am, then apple or orange at 2pm ish and a 250 cal tea at about 6pm. If I can just get thru today's fast I think it will help me refocus. Thanks again
ps I've made hubby hide the mars bars this week!
Hi, hope you are getting back on track?
It is hard when that hunger gets bad but l got a tip to drink a cup of boullion, its only 7 calories and it does just take the edge off that hungerness, l know sometimes its hard going to bed really hungry, but just think when you wake up the next morning you can eat normally again until your next fast...good luck xxx
Alibarber, don't worry. I've done lots of damage today. Started off well as a fasting day but then whilst at train station decided to fast tomorrow instead and gave in to 2 (yes 2) creme eggs. Then I had some fudge plus a few of the kids mini eggs. What a pig - this is why I'm overweight in the first place. Also despite being relatively good and fasting x 2 500 cal days last week I actually gained 2 lbs so am thoroughly fed up. There are bound to be many of us who feel we're failing at times but sites like this are a great support cos even writing this makes me feel better! LOL!
Hi, just to reinforce what previous posters have said AB - don't beat yourself up, a half a mars bar at the end of a fast day is still a really low calorie day and will contribute to your weight loss goal. Especially as you'll repeat that fast day again so that one is a v low cal feast day (iyswim?!) Keep on keeping on, you never fail if you don't give up trying!
