I need to lose about 100 lbs. I have a question about fast days. I'm considering just having coffee (gotta have it!) and water on those days. I normally have cream and sugar in my coffee, and still might, and count those as my 500 calories. Or I might go black on those days, and just drink water the rest of the day. So I'm wondering if that's a bad idea.....to not eat any solid foods. Has anyone tried that, and if so, did it work or no? Thanks for any helpful suggestions. Kinda looking forward to starting this tomorrow, but I know it's gonna be hard! I'll be back here often for tips and support!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!
If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Good luck with your first fast. You will find lots and lots of really good information and tips on the board about how to do this way of eating/life.
A lot of us seem to fast from dinner time one day to dinner time the next. So after dinner, only no cal/low cal fluids until bed time and sleep through until morning. Fluids only until the 500 cal meal at dinner time and then fluids only until breakfast next morning. Water, fruit tea, green tea, ordinary tea, no cal squash etc etc is fine. The important thing is to drink LOTS. It helps with fat metabolism. I would suggest being a wee bit cautious about too much caffeine as it could upset your sleep.
There is also different views about diet drinks. I think there is a thread in the nerdy section.
If you do use sugar and milk in your drinks remember to allow for the calories in them.
All said and done, this WOE is trial and error for the individual and you play with it until you find something that works for you.
Tha's what I really like about it, and what seems to be making it suit so many people and making it sustainable (although it is still early days)
Best of luck , remember to put your data into the tracker and let us know how you get on
Yes, that's what I do...no cal drinks right through to dinner time. There is a poll running on how people arrange their meals on fast days and around half do it this way, with others having varying combinations of small meals. The one meal in the evening option also let's you join in with a normal-looking family dinner.
Good luck with it.
