Hello :-)

Hi to everyone on the forum,

I am new to the 5:2 diet and am eager to do it!!

Today is my first day..Please could someone experienced explain the 'best' way to fast? This is what I had planned to do:

7am Breakfast
7am-7pm have no food - only drink water
7pm Dinner
(sharing the 500 Calories between breakfast and Dinner)
7pm-7am no Food

Does this way of doing it work? and does it mean I am fasting for 2 x 12 hour stints? Is there a better way?

Thank you in advance!

Hi there Rkingfisher and welcome to the forum!

As far as the best way to organise your fast day goes, there are no rules and it's best to experiment with what works best for you. What you have described is exactly what Dr M does... so all good there!

I can tell you, though, that many people (about half of those who took part in our poll to find out when people use their calories) save all the calories until the evening meal and find this helps to reduce hunger and temptation during the day. Others find they really need breakfast and some of these like to have breakfast but as late as possible or call it lunch!

I knew that when I eat anything I would want more so I saved all my cals to the evening right from my first fast. You know your body...what do you think would fit best? Start with that and feel free to experiment as you go on.

Good luck with it.

Hi Carorees,

Thank you for your reply - makes sense, i'm midday now and still hanging on in there(!).

Tempted to have a satsuma (currently having a Camomile tea (which says 2 cals on the box but the book says herbal tea in 0 calorie....any ideas?? also what are the 'rules' on diet coke...didnt see that in the book.

Thanks again :-)

2? I don't bother counting anything under 5...I mean think how much you'd have to drink to really have a meaningful impact!

I would say resist the satsuma...it won't full you up but it will trigger more hunger!

There is a long thread on diet Coke in the frequently asked questions board. Also in nerdy stuff some interesting threads about how hunger works and how full your stomach and intestine has to be for you not to feel hungry (which is why one satsuma won't dent the hunger at all).

Keep it up!
