Hello I'm new

Hiya all, I'm thinking of giving the 5:2 diet a go. I need to loose a minimum of a stone and preferably a stone and a half in weight which I have put on since I have given up smoking. What I really need to help me is a 'dictionary' of calories. So some sort of reference book or Iphone app that will tell me how many calories are in various foods. I just can't see how I can count calories if I don't know how many calories are in foods. Any help will be gratefully received and I'm looking forward to chatting to you all :grin:

Hi Chapelrose and welcome

There are some great apps for calorie counting! The two most popular with folks here are the my fitness pal app and the calorie counter from my fat secret which have websites as well as apps (links here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=208#p45). Any questions about how to use the sites/apps do ask as most people here are using one or other of them!

Hi Chapelrose, welcome to the forum.
I have used the 'my fitness pal' app since I started doing the 5:2 in August and find it invaluable. If you have a smart phone with a camera, download the 'bar code scanner' app as well and it will read the bar codes and let you know how many calories are in foods. Really handy.Good luck.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome, I am off to look for the apps now in the app store. I'm worried that I will be in for some nasty surprises with just how many calories are in the foods I currently eat!!
