Hi , im a little confused, i assumed the fast was from the time you had your eve meal on day 1 ,on day 2 you eat your 500 kcals and then nothing until breakfast day 3, but i read some where on here that you shouldnt eat anything for 16hours after your last food on day 1 if you want the health benefits as well as the weight loss. Is this correct? in which case i shouldnt eat anything til 12noon on day 2. Does this make sense? .....sorry im new

Hi sparklevergreen

The whole "how long between eating" thing is a real can of worms. There is no evidence for any particular length of time but lots of theories. While a lot of us prefer to save all the calories until the evening meal on Day 2, that is mostly because we find it easier in terms of controlling hunger and we hope that it might have additional benefits but we have no proof at all about that. The bottom line is that you should organise your fast days to suit your own needs so that they are as easy as possible because it is more important to be able to sustain this lifestyle than to worry about small differences that may or may not accrue by fasting for x or y hours.

many (several ?) of the clinical trials have a single 500-600 calorie lunch meal on the "fast" day - not least because they can easily do that in a clinic and supply the meal to the dieters under controlled conditions. So they typically fast from 22:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 08:00 (14 and 18 hours)
