Hi everyone, me & my husband have just started the 5:2 diet together & we've decided to share our fast days so that we can support each other. I prefer to keep the meals simple whilst he's happy to experiment. Today is our first fast day & I'm starting with porridge & blueberries while my husband is having bacon, sausage, egg & a portabello mushroom. I love the flexibility of foods & eating times so each person can tailor it to their own lifestyle & tastes.

The porridge tasted really bland even with the blueberries. I'll probably put a bit of salt on it next time. I do keep thinking about food though. I've been drinking Chai tea, White tea or Camomile & Spearmint tea. It's been an education in many ways as I read about the foods I was going to eat beforehand. For instance, jumbo porridge oats have lower GI than instant oats & this is because the instant oats are smaller so digest quicker.

Well i know this will sound odd but with my allergies and stuff I don't always put real fruit in my porridge, if it's cooked a bit i tolerate it better. Too cut a long story short, I use baby food fruit puddings in my porridges, ones i can eat. They are quite low in calories and they really stop the porridge or yoghurt from being so bland. Not as sweet as jam but somehow it tricks the brain =)
