Hi I'm new

Hello here's my introduction  I'm Jude and I've actually been fasting for five weeks but just discovered this site today, thought it would be quite nice to see how other fasters are doing as non fasters can be a tad negative! :?:

I've been following the 5/2 fast and have lost 5.4kgs so far, found it relatively easy but have had some moments of weakness  I've been thinking of stepping up fast to a 4/3 for a month or so as I have a family wedding to attend in April. Photos, outfits and god forbid wedding videos are frankly filling me with dread!

Has anyone here stepped up fast days? If so, did it make much difference to rate of weight loss? Would love to know x

I've been a yoyo dieter for years heaviest weight was 14st 3lbs, lightest 9st ish, when I started this I was 13st 7lbs now 12st 9lbs would love to find something that gets me out the yoyo diet game once and for all, hoping this is it

Hey
I have left the fast days at 2 days a week, and one free day. I normally run on the cross trainer for 45 min to hour and half 5 days a week but i am having a lazy month as we are renovating and there is no space to use my trainer. I haven't altered my fast days as my metabolism would freeze up and go into starvation mode if i added most days as a fast 0.o though it may work for others, i guess if it's working for you keep it up =)

Hi Jude

Have a look at the progress tracker data for the forum to see how much difference 4:3 makes. It doesn't look like it makes much difference but of course it may be that people doing 4:3 chose to do so because they were not losing much and so if someone who is doing well on 5:2 went to 4:3 it might make a bigger difference.

I think you need to ensure you are eating enough on the feed days. I did see a paper recently, which I am going to post about in the nerdy stuff section when I get around to it, which compared calorie restriction with alternate day 20-hour fasts over a 2 week period. The people who fasted every other day showed a reduction in their resting metabolic rate (though the reduction was not all that great so whether it makes a practical difference I don't know) but it might explain why the difference in weight loss on 4:3 compared with 5:2 is not that much.

Thanks for all the lovely welcomes and advice, Carorees I think I am eating enough on non fast days although it is less than when I've been ignoring my diet, I didn't get to four stone over weight by eating under 2000 cals daily lol. I do find I make healthier choices on feast days as quality seems more important somehow, having said that I've had the odd Indian takeaway as well!

Having read what everyone has said I will probably stick to the 5/2 fast for now and read up on the nerdy stuff  I can always hide from the wedding cameras it will be like an extra work out ducking behind doors and tables
