Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!
If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!
Yes the book is confusing! What the majority of people are doing is to have an evening meal, fast overnight, eat up to 500 cal the next day (usually in one evening meal but some have breakfast and dinner, some lunch and dinner, a few have three meals), go to bed, eat normally the next day. So the lengths of the fasting periods vary depending on the meal times but there are two overnight fasts plus a low/no cal daytime period.
Does that make sense?
I am finding the fasts really quite easy, I find between 3pm and 5pm is the worst time of day, but I have discovered Bovril granules as an amazing 10cal drink. The granules definitely taste better than the paste, I can't find the granules in the shops but good old Amazon stocks them and they arrived within 24 hours.
My friend also on the 5:2 diet (started about 3 weeks ago and has lost 5lb) has discovered Chia seeds and is raving about them, anyone else come across these?
Well good luck everyone, I am slightly disheartened at this weeks weigh-in but determined to give this a long term go because I completely believe in the concept, and (unfortunately my husband is right) add diets are not sustainable, whereas this really does seem to be something I feel I could keep up indefinitely.
All the best

I'm heading into week two - due to fast tomorrow. Looking forward to it, oddly enough! I think I'm down about 2lbs.
Best,
Marie
Tesco has the bovril stock cubes. They have about 13 cals per cube and also make a brilliant hot drink when you are fed up of black coffee or feeling hungry.
