Had been going to a well-known diet club for last 6 weeks, and although lost half a stone, got fed up with having to log everything and not ever being able to eat exactly what I wanted or feel guilty if I did. A colleague told me she was doing this 'diet' and remembering having seen it on TV and later Michael's programme on excercise which also impressed me, made the decsion to download the book on my Kindle and give it a go. Couldn't wait until I read the whole book but rather, take the plunge. Decided I would skip breakfast as rarely hungry in the morning and I find that if I do eat, it gets my appetite going so waited until hungry (around 11.30) and had an apple. Lunch was half-fat cottage cheese, a slice of wafer thin ham and salad (just lettuce, cucumber and cherry tomatoes)at 14.30. Eating later made it easy to last to 18.30 for dinner. Had amazing Salmon and spinach tartare from BBC Good Food website where they have a tab called 'healthy' with a section listing 200 - 400 calorie recipes. Will get on and read the book as I go, but impressed so far.

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, I totally agree that eating earlier in the day just gets my appetite going. I generally now don't eat until dinner. I fill up on black coffee, water and herbal tea. I might have a cup of bouillon too in the afternoon when my son gets home from school and starts attacking the fridge :-D

Am a bit confused with the talk of 2am to 2pm fasts and other 12 hour slots. Does it work better if you divide the day into 3 x 12 hour slots and divide the 500/600 calories to consume at 12 hour intervals or will it work just as well to have a longer slot at the beginning as I did today ie from dinner last night to late morning today and then the other meal only 7 or 8 hours later?

No one knows if there is any difference at all, so really we think that whatever works best for you is best.

We think there may be a small advantage if the times between eating are longer, as the fasting gurus posting on the internet have variously suggested 12, 16, 18, 20 or 24 hours is best. As you can see, there is no agreement!

So my advice currently is to try to have at least one reasonably long food free period during the day (avoiding snacking and skipping one or more masks will do this) but it doesn't matter if that doesn't work for you...sustainability is more important.

Did my first fast yesterday too - my hubby is also doing this with me. We kept checking in all day while at work and both realized it was pretty easy! Really excited about this new way of life. Thanks all for the good advice.
