Hi there

New to this forum but have been doing 5:2 for 2 weeks so far. I haven't taken measurements or weighed myself yet (keep putting it off for some reason) but clothes are feeling looser and i feel good.

I just want someone to confirm im doing it properly - or the most effective way?

I have been reading too much about 24 /36 hours and which is best but im getting a bit confused.

I do the following: -

Wake up on a fast day - drink coffee and tea all day ntil about 8/9pm when i have my 500 allowance.

Is this a good way to do it?

Yes, your method is perfect! Many of us do the same as you.

A lot of confusion has arisen by the fact that although 5:2 is described as a fasting diet, not everyone actually fasts for an extended period (i.e. goes without any food) and then when people are discussing timings it all gets muddled about whether they are talking about 24 hours without any foods or 24 hours on a 500 cal allowance.
