Newbie Alert :)

Hello there!

I am Stacey and came across the 5 2 diet by complete accident, was youtubing other stuff when i saw a video about the diet and miranda kerr, now i think she's amazing [more so cos she's with orlando bloom, lucky so and so] so i though i'd check it out, hey, who wouldnt want to look like her?!

I was intriqued so have found this forum and now im posting!

As a dieter im a TOTAL yo-yo'er, every year my weight drops like 2 stone by summer and then im back up again come christmas and i am overweight, so its not like im miss slinky in the summer, i have issues with sticking to just "healthy eating" cos i do LOVE food, i could eat all freaking day! haha

But if i do a diet, im like miss focused...for a while haha so the thought of this diet where i can eat what i want for 5 days, but not go silly, well i dont eat fast foods or processed foods anyway and then 2 days where i can be miss focused, sounds pretty like me. I work at a supermarket and so thier food isnt exactly calorie controlled and im not a prepare in advance person, so seeing as i have two days off a week, those would be my fasting days. I've done strict calorie controlled diet before, not to this extreme but within 1,000 calories with some to spare, so it may be hard, but id be willing to give it a go....if people can show me/tell me how well it really works!

Exercise is a pain for me cos i have issues with my feet and i have been swimming, but now works being a pain with my hours im paying for a service i cant use, so im having to stop it for now. Hoping to find something else soon! I have a bike but it needs seeing too and i dont have the money at the moment and i dont really find the joy in riding as much as i do swimming, so why do something i dont enjoy, i wont get the benefit. I dont drive either and no buses after like 7pm to go out or come home.

Yeah anywhos, back to the diet, tell me some good stories, pictures...i dunno anything!

Hi there Pink Lady and welcome to the forum!

I hope you will find all the answers to your questions about 5:2 in the FAQ (link in my signature below).

I had avoided dieting for years because I knew I'd end up heavier than I started. But I have this one a go because I thought it would be something I could keep up for good...I knew that any permanent weight loss would have to be accompanied by a permanent lifestyle change. Anyway, I've been following it since early November and have lost nearly 17kg (35 lb)! Some people don't lose weight that quickly but most people do lose weight and find it sustainable. I hope you will too.

I can totally sympathise with you and swimming...it is my favourite exercise too but so hard to find a pool nearby with suitable opening times! I invested in an exercise bike with the money I saved after I canceled the gym membership and now try to do some high intensity interval training.

So, check out the FAQ and give us a shout if there's anything else you need to know. When you start your fast day do drop by the Fasting Today thread and say hello!

Good luck!

My parents have a bike, but its so uncomfy that i cant be on it for more then a few minutes, its pretty old i may add! haha

I got a hula hoop, i should get back into that and i have one of those bars with wheels to help with your stomach, my hoop is a proper one, huge and weighted and i dont think my room is big enough for it! Ooooops aha

Hi
I am new to both this blog and the 5:2 diet but I have seen a number of work colleagues suceed very quickly!
I started last week and I have to say it was a struggle, I was extremely irritable and very hungry both the fast days but battled through. I havent weighed myself but I have lost sbout .5 inches so I am enthused to continue. Do be careful not to use feast days as an excuse to pig out as this just defeats the fast days.
Am also not able to do much in the gym but dk walk about 40k a week so am hoping this is enough exercise. Best of luck and lets go fo it!

Im not too bad on normal eating, with work i get to eat breakfast, lunch and then home for tea....working in a supermarket gives no time for snacking and i can choose a healthier version in the canteen if i want too, but nothing is extremely healthy unless i ask for a plate lf salad of course! haha
