tired of it :(
18 Mar 2013, 08:05
Fasting today, I don't struggle too much with them being a student i am use to not having too much to eat during the day some days when i am rushing around with deadlines etc.

My problem is I seem to go into over drive on my feed days I havn't weighed myself this week because of this but i am scared i am going to sabotage myself by eating too much on my feed days.

I don't know what it is I just seem to eat and eat and I am fed up. I have my 1400 calorie target on feed days and the 500 on fast days i can do the 500 fine but the 1400 seems near impossible and i just dont know why!

Well and truely fed up :(

Why 1400 on your feed days? That's seems low.

How long have you been doing this Hannah? I had the same problem when I started and I'm sure I sabotaged myself a few times by not being able to control myself and eating everything not nailed down. That stage has passed though and it may be a phase for you too that will pass. Quite a few people here have found the same thing.
Don't be discouraged, it will settle down, it slowed things down for me but I am persevering.
Is your target based on your TDEE as if you exercise it may be higher than 1400 ?

Im only just starting this week, but im sure the days im feeding, espcially after my first fast day, im gonna load up on food, its quite natural i would think, to feel you have to make up for what you missed and ready yourself for the next one, but also i believe that'll set you for a bigger fail as you eat more then you should.

Try not sticking to a certain amount of calories on your feed days, or if you feel you should, do a higher number and dont hate yourself if you do go over it, its not a problem, just know that tomorrows a new day for you to start again and be as good as you can be

I have come to realise that I can't eat ' whatever' on the non fast days, I am either staying the same or gaining even tho the fast days are within the 500 cal limit.
I did work out the TDEE thing and its 1700 ish for me so I suppose I need to try and keep more to that if I want to lose. I have about 20 lbs to lose, think I have put on about 5 since I started due to social events etc, I know that is not a sensible reason as there will always be social events so I need to get a grip- on hols in about 4 weeks so could do with losing a few lbs before then,

1400 is what I worked out is what I need to eat to stay healthly losing weight on my feed days :).
I am into my second week debs seems a bit silly freaking out this early on.
yes its based on my tdee with 300 subtracted so I can try stay on track i do think of it more as a guidline for my day but it is just frustrating.

Hi pink lady yeah my first feed day i felt like i had been starved for a month but that was more due to the fact i had lunch instead of dinner the first fast day so went to sleep hungry but I seem to be able to last untill lunch fine just having a small breakfast then lunch untill night I have my two meals and graze constantly :/.

I can relate Sue I had a weekend at the in laws this week and that second glass of wine caused me too think that all the chocolate and nibbles offered were a great idea saturday night I think I need to sort out my portion size and or grazing habbits.

Thanks for all the words so far it's nice to know I am not alone in feeling like this.

Hannah, one 'greedy' feed day isn't a problem provided you balance it with a 'frugal' day. And staying under your real TDEE on feed days might not help you with the weight loss as much as you expect, because when you do that it might lower your body metabolism (so you burn less calories as well as taking in less). Better to stick - on average - to your TDEE and let the fast days do the losing for you.

If I eat under TDEE by 300 I lose less weight than if I average TDEE. In fact, a big weekend going over TDEE combined with frugal week days keeping under TDEE plus the fast days is giving me the best weightloss. I have lost about 1kg a week except if I under eat when it was 0.5 kg (of course if I average above TDEE for the week I don't lose). My advice is don't diet on the 5 days, just the two fast days.

You have mixed up diets. Either calorie restrict every day or fast until you are very comfortable with this way of eating.

If you average the calories over the week, you are eating much less than is good for you.

Munchies is also a phase...

I had just assumed that it would help out on a whole but should have done more research before going ahead I can see now.
From the comments I can see that it could be holding me back I shall be sticking to my tdee from now on.

I don't calorie-count at all on feed days, just eat if - and only if - I am genuinely hungry. I feel so much more able to do this because of understanding true hunger from the fasting days. So I have "whatever I want" but I don't want too much! The fast days actually re-programme your whole attitude to food and eating. Good luck!

Emm's right, best description I've seen on how to treat feed days.

Lots of people seem to either want to diet or eat a lot and get distressed when they do either. It has to be a reasonable intake of food and then you also benefit from the mind being able to relax, as you're just observing and responding to the true hunger signals.
