I think as you see here that a lot of us found day one very difficult. I'm a relative newbie - Thursday will be fast #6 for me - but I have found it has gotten quite easy. I look forward to my fast days! My mind and body just feel more 'crisp and clean' somehow on the day of and after. I don't know how to describe it - but it's probably a testament to my not-good eating habits normally. I find that my diet even on feed days is getting healthier. I'm simply more aware of food in a good way - why would I want to put that (whatever junk item) in my body when I just cleaned it? LOL
It seems to me that there are as many different ways to do the fasting day as their are human bodies doing it.

Some folks do two or three small meals. Some folks graze on very low calorie snacks in-between, too. The primary goal seems to be to stay within that very low calorie restriction, however you do that. For me, I still have children at home and we try to have a family meal as often as we can between kids' activities. I find that it is easier for me to go allllll day without eating anything at all, so I save all my calories for the family supper. Then, I just eat what everyone else is having, in the appropriate portion size. I did have to learn not to make/eat anything very carby. Spaghetti night with garlic bread was a total killer - I ended up with 700 calories instead of 500.
Doing it this way, for me, lets me keep my normal 'family' routine without making it obvious I am cutting back my calories. I have 4 children, two of whom are teenaged girls who are a very normal weight and very athletic. One, especially, has very low body fat percentage and a bit of an OCD personality with her sport. I do not want to risk getting any sort of eating-disorder-mindset for them by letting them see *me* obsessing about food or my weight.

At any rate, my rambling point is, you will slowly find what works for you!
