Day 1 was rough!

I have fasted before for many reasons....blood work, surgery...etc, but this first day of fasting kicked my butt! I just woke up from a nap and now I am ready to go to sleep, LOL. I am sure it will get easier.

My Day 1 was rough too. I was hungry by 11 am and knew I couldn't eat before 7 pm. I drank lots of water and peppermint tea, but I became light-headed, couldn't concentrate and very irritable. I slept dreadfully (unusually for me) and felt like I had a hangover the next morning.

I am very glad to say that now (Day 5 was yesterday) I am coping well, having discovered 3 small meals was the better option for me.

Yes my first fast was horrible. It just shows how dependent our bodies have become on getting fed at regular intervals. It quickly improved though. Now in my 20th week fasting is no bother and I no longer have to drink gallons of water to prevent headaches. I get a bit hungry mid afternoon but a go on the exercise bike fixes that and I'm good until my one meal at around 6.30 pm.

I ended up making a low calorie cabbage soup and I had a cup for lunch and a cup for dinner. For breakfast I had a 70 calorie protein drink. For snack, I had a few strawberries. Perhaps it was the strawberries that made me feel hungry?

Today was my first day and I did split my 500 kcal in 3.
I think it did make it easier.
I was also hungry but not as bad as I was expecting it to be.
I did also drink a lot of tea, water and 1 cup of black coffee.

I think drinking tea will definitely help. I will have some for my fast day tomorrow

I always advise - do whatever it takes to get through your first fast! After that, you can start adjusting, based on what works for you and what doesn't. But the first one's the worst one.

My first day was horrible too, I was so hungry come dinner time that I had to physically stop myself from eating my food too quickly. I was dreading my second day of fasting but surprisingly found it much easier and have just completed my third day and found that even easier than my second, so it does seem to get easy very quickly.
I just keep telling myself that I can eat whatever I want the next day.

Well, fast day 2 was much easier. I didn't feel as hungry as I did the first day. I had 2 cups of peppermint tea, so that helped a lot. I will have 1 bowl of soup for dinner and that will tide me over for the evening.

That is good news hillkay2. Like you, I find tea very helpful to get me through the afternoon. I also find planning a really nice filling dinner keeps me going as I can look forwrard to it all day. Lemon Haloumi Chicken tonight with a rocket, pear and walnut salad.

Yesterday was my fist fast day and I failed miserabley. I did well up until 5pm. I usually have my evening meal around 7pm then because I don't go to sleep until around 11.30pm to midnight I tend to do most of my snacking in the evenings.

For lunch I had a small tin of tuna 67 cals with some lettuce & grated carrot, then I had a weightwathers lasagne with salad for dinner which was at 6.15pm, but at 9pm I was really hungry and then had 4 dry biscuits with cheese, cup cooffe and 4 choclote biscuits.

I am also on insulin, which doesn't help.

Any ideas on helping survive my next fast day, next monday. I've decided to go with Mon & Thurs as my fast days.

I feel like such a failure AGAIN !!!

That doesn't sound like too much over 500 cals - did you count them all up?

It helps to plan out in advance what you'll be eating. If you KNOW you like a snack in the evening, why not budget for that in your plan. I love laughing cow light cheese on crackerbread or rice thins, which I can get for 50-70 calories. Options hot chocolates are a good way of satisfying a craving for something sweet, and they are nice just before bedtime too.

Hi lovemyfood22

Did you check your blood glucose throughout the day? Remember you may need to reduce insulin on a fast day or your body will not be able to release fat for fuel! You really need to monitor things carefully and consult with your health care team.

I wouldn't worry about going a bit over 500, after all it is still a big reduction from your usual intake I'm sure!

Next fat day will be easier I'm sure, but please do monitor bg closely!

Hi Pilchards, 1st time poster here and onto my 8th fast day today! Just the 4 pounds lost so far! I was wondering if you had a recipe/ingredients list for your 'Lemon Haloumi Chicken'? It sounds absolutely amazing?!
