Hello!!
20 Mar 2013, 10:42
I have been sticking to the 5:2 diet since the second week in Jan, and I've lost about a stone and a half so working really well! Having said that, I have another 2 or 2.5 stone to go, so in it for the long haul.

I (stupidly) thought it would get easier, but I have been finding the fast days more difficult the past couple of weeks. Probably didn't help that I had my first week of not losing anything a couple of weeks ago, which was really demoralising but having read some posts here perfectly normal.

Having been an "emotional eater" all my life, I find some days really hard - "if I can't make myself feel better with food, what can I do" sort of thing. And I'm afraid a bubble bath or some new hand cream just doesn't cut the mustard...

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

When you are feeling peckish or tempted just trawl through the forums. It distracts you. I also have Tetris on my iPad. It is very addictive!!

Hello Swedey
Can you expand a bit on how you are finding fast days more difficult? Are you more hungry or finding the day longer? A wee bit more info can help us to offer some suggestions to help.
As Caro says, trawling the forum is a great distaction and ther are also lots of hints, tips and support waiting for you to find!
You are in for the long haul, as you say and are doing very well up to now, so a temporary blip is just that- temporary.

Hi Janeg

I'm finding it more difficult to cope with the hunger, rather than hungrier I think. A bit depressed and a bit sorry for myself, I have spent a couple of the mornings in bed (I'm not working and I have the time!!). I find it difficult to concentrate on anything other than thinking about just getting through the day.

I'm hoping it will get easier when the weather is better (I feel very cold on fast days, like so many others) and I can get outside and do some work in the garden, and also vary my 500 cal menu to include salad which will vary it more.

Nej, men hej!

My husband is half Swedish and we have a sommarstuga in the Stockholm archipelago where we go for several weeks every summer. The whole family meets up and holidays together. We fika every day (I am in charge of baking the cakes), not to mention plenty of sill och snaps, and the fantastic Swedish potatoes and strawberries, so I am pondering on how to prevent weight gain during my holiday!

Hej hej!

Hej Swedey!

I don't suppose you have found a good UK source of fil? I sometimes get it from Totally Swedish in London but the delivery charges are so high it makes it too expensive and I can only manage to store around 4 litres at a time! I see that Ocado do some Swedish foods like lingon and falukorv but no fil :-(

Hello Swedey, sounds as though you are on a bit of a downer. Hopefully it will lift with the better weather. If you feel cold perhaps you could try soup as part of your daily allowance. I trawl the net and get excited at al the lovely pictures and then make myself go out for a walk to the shops to buy stuff to make it. I reckon the bit of sunshine and exercise are as good a tonic as making and eating the soup!
A wee bit of a change in your fasting routine may help to make it easier. Perhaps others have suggestions too?

Aha, hello Caroline! I noticed some Swedish on another post. I envy you spending time in the archipelago, we had a sailing boat when I grew up so every holiday was spent out there (did seem to rain a lot though). As for fil, no I can't help you unfortunately. The Ocado Swedish shop is good and I got most stuff I needed for my annual Julbord last Christmas, but fil seems to be something they are keeping to themselves! Shame, as I think it has the edge on yoghurt. I also keep forgetting to buy Grahamsgryn, which is a whole weat grain that you can make porridge from. I have tried to like porridge made from oats in every which way but I can't stand it. Dad's coming to visit in May, so will try to ask him to bring some.

Jane - I'm coping better with my fasting today. Decided on brunch of two ryvitas and two low fat cheese triangles and a tin of weight watchers chicken and noodle soup (total 170 cals), saving the rest for supper later. Trying to keep warm with lots of herbal tea.

Can't help for the weather to warm up though, can't contemplate salads when it's like this, just big bowls full of soup (home made and rather lovely, but even so....)

It's frustrating that we can't get filmjölk...I like it so much better than yoghurt or even the pouring yoghurt that you can sometimes get nowadays. Totally Swedish do it and it is only £1.80/litre but the delivery cost is £9 for chilled stuff!!! Free delivery for orders over £80!!! You can get grahamsgryn from Scandinavian kitchen and delivery is £6.50 or free for orders over £50, but they don't deliver filmjölk :-(. At least you can have your Dad bring the grahamsgryn over but I'm not sure how the customs men would treat a suitcase full of fil!

My OH is going over next month with his brother and mother to open up the sommarstuga and transport a lot of dry goods over to the island ready for our summer. We built a jordkällare a couple of years ago so we can stock up on potatoes etc too.

I would love a jordkällare! Saving it for a project for sometime in the future.
