Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!
If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!
I have been eating the same foods as before I started, though probably less of them because fasting really does adjust your appetite. As you can see from my profile on the left, I've lost a lot of weight (still quite a lot more to go though). I didn't eat especially unhealthily before...just if you have cake and coffee everyday the weight is bound to increase . So now I have cake with my coffee 5 times a week and am still losing weight! I seem to lose fastest if I don't restrict calories too much on feed days.
Good luck...
The concept of 'normal' eating is causing all sorts of debate! There are lots of bits of science and research and stuff and what I take from it is that the 'normal eating' is what your requirement is. You can work this out by calculating your TDEE . This is how much energy your body needs to maintain it's current weight. There is a link to it in the FAQ and resources section. If you eat that amount on the five eating days and 25% of the TDEE on the fast/repair days then this should result in a calorie deficit and weight loss.
The 'feast' isn't eat as much of what you want, sadly. However, it seems that for a lot of people, appetite does calm down after fasting and the need or want to overheat decreases as we get better at fasting. Many people also seem to want good food and decrease the amount of empty or wasteful calories, while still enjoying everything. What's not to love about this way of eating.
There is lots of info on the forum and many people who are knowledgable and helpful.
Good luck
I have cut down substantially on my "normal" days, as I want to get to a point where I can sustain the lower weight I'm aiming for. I didn't have a massively unhealthy eating regime before, just too big a portions, too many snack, and too my alcohol. So I've pretty much cut out on snacks (ie crisps and sweets, still eat fruit), cut down on alcohol and portion size. I found this difficult I admit - but has to be worth it as I really don't want to find myself in this situation again!
Good luck!!
I started about your weight just over 4 weeks ago and have lost a stone. I am also the same height as you!!!
I eat 500 calories over 3 meals 2 days a week and eat what l feel like the other 5 days. Dont get me wrong l am NOT eating 4 Mcdonalds a day, but l have had steak with my husband, healthy(ish) pizza, lasagne and wine on a weekend, but l am not being greedy with it, so basically l believe you can still have a decent social life, l think after a couple weeks you will know how to play with the diet (sorry lifestyle) but good luck because it really does work, l think the important thing is to really stick to your 500 calories 2 days a week and work the rest out as you go along. I do not count calories on feed days as that is what this is about, but just be careful and not to be too greedy with it, as they say everything in moderation, all the best xxx
But please measure yourself, l have lost alot of inches as well as weight xxxx
