IBS -Need advice
26 Mar 2013, 16:59
Can anyone help me. I suffer from IBS, mainly just bad cramping from time to time.

I did my 3rd fast yesterday and today started getting bad cramps in the afternoon when I finally went to the loo (don't seem to go on fast days)

Should I be eating something more gentle for breakfast other than shredded wheat? I also had sandwich and crisps for lunch. Should I make my day after fasting a little less wheaty?

Would appreciate some advice

Thanks x

Hi Jazzy

I am not sure about your question regarding the too much wheat food, but have you tried the buscopan tablets for the cramping? I haven't used them myself but my mum says they work really well for her.
It might help you

Hi jazzybear

Some people have found an improvement in IBS symptoms, others have had worsening...mainly temporary as far as I know. It is always worth playing around with your food balance to see what improve things. I do think that allowing the guts to have a bit of a rest on fast days can reveal hidden intolerances. Obviously wheat and dairy are common foods that cause intolerance so it's a good idea to experiment with cutting them down (one at a time preferably). If you didn't get any problems with the first 2 fasts can you spot any differences between those and yesterday/today?

I had some 'digestive upset' for the first few fasts but that went away (can't exactly remember when). Seems that the body has a lot of things to get used to with the fasting lark!

Thanks for your replies. I do use buscopan plus painkillers nad peppermint tea.

I will fast on Thursday and try a protein breakfast the next day and avoid crisps also.

Thanks Izzy, I have taken some in the past but never really stuck to it for long enough. I will also get some prune juice as I do seem to have trouble after fasting. Other than that I am feeling great and and really enjoying this new way of life.
