Think I'm gonna like this
30 Mar 2013, 02:31
Hi all, I've been doing this WOL and reading this forum since I read the book about 3 weeks ago. I have really enjoyed reading the forum, especially on fasting days, and am feeling really positive about this. My weight loss isn't as fast as some people's - a lot the first week and not much since (2 more weeks) - but feeling thinner and seeing inch loss on the tape measure so I'm going for it. But here's the thing. I'm getting married in about three weeks and would like to look awesome (or as good as I can). Thinking about doing 4:3 until then if it will do any good. What do you think?

Hi gspme and welcome!

It's hard to say whether 4:3 will result in faster weightloss. The forum wide progress tracker stats (have you registered on the progress tracker? You can view the forum results) show little advantage for 4:3 over 5:2 but that might be because there are fewer people doing it and they might have chosen it for reasons that would result in a slower weightloss (e.g., they want to eat more on feed days, they have a thyroid disorder). So it could be that for you it will give faster weightloss. Why not give it a go?

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding! Three weeks isn't long to make an enormous difference but if it makes you feel better and you can do 4:3 without it causing you even more stress than you will already be experiencing, then go for it. Don't forget to come back to 5:2 straight away after the honeymoon!

Have a wonderful wedding day! I'm sure that you will look awesome!

Thanks so much! I will give it a try, let you know how it goes. Right after Easter... I know three weeks isn't much so no huge expectations. On the other hand, it's only three weeks so shouldn't be too difficult, right?

I just want to post my experience this week. I did 4:3 this week, and I was going to wait and weigh myself on Saturday (after the last fast) but I couldn't wait... this morning - Friday morning of my 3rd fast day this week - I had a 1.8 lb. loss. So excited! Have a couple pair of work pants that will have to be retired shortly. Yay! Just have to say, this forum keeps me going when the going gets tough. Thanks to all.

I'm really happy where this is going, but I have a situation next week where I won't be able to do my regular fast (on Wednesday). I have a night out with friends on Wednesday, and a business lunch on Tuesday, so I was thinking maybe a 26 or so hour fast over the two days? I've never done that so want to make sure I do it right. Thursday is my birthday (50th!) and I'm planning a fast on Friday. So when you do a shorter fast, do you still have the 500 calories over that time period?

If you're in a hurry to lose weight, then my suggestion is this:

If you do it for 3 days, you might lose 3 kilos. Try to maintain them for 4 days and then do it for another 3. When I do that, I lose 4 kilos on two weeks.

Update: It's been 5 weeks and I'm very happy with my progress. I did 4:3 last week and was rewarded nicely. Tried to do it again this week but on my 2nd fast day I felt awful, caved in and had some snacks at work, but then stuck with my 300 cal dinner. Finished the last fast day no problem, and I had another loss (weighed in this morning). So I think I'll just stick with 5:2 and be more realistic about losing. Better to do what's do-able and feel okay than try for too much I think.
