Not working!!
31 Mar 2013, 09:13
Really annoyed to find this morning that I've gained a kg this week. I know I've only been doing it for 3 weeks but I lost 1kg in the first week, 0.1kg in the second and now I've gained a kg I'm back to where I started

Really don't understand how as I've kept to my 500 cals on fast days and eaten sensibly on feed days. I've done my usual gym days so no idea where I go from here.

Help!!!!

Sorry to hear that, I know that feeling...
For me apparently I have to eat only 1570 on feed days ( I thought it was 1800-2000cal!). So Maybe keep an eye on feed days, it's what I'm gonna do because I'm not losing anything

Good luck Hope girls will give you some ideas

OH, TartanAli, what a bummer! It is so frustrating. I've had a sneaky weigh yesterday (usually only do it monthly) and am not impressed. Hoping it improves for the official weigh/measure next week.
How are you feeling? Have you measured anything? Waist/ hips? Are any of your clothes looser. Do you feel lighter? How much weight are you aiming to lose
There is a thread on why the scales lie that Caroline posted in the nerdy section which you might find useful.
Three weeks is early days and fluctuations (on as well as off) are usual. Still, it is annoying.
BUT you will be getting the health benefits and in 6 (?) days of calorie restriction and 21 days of normal eating you haven' t put anything on.
Have you worked out your TDEE like Pashcaline suggested. Sometimes it can be a wee bit challenging to know how much we need and can overdo it slightly.
I hope you will give it a bit longer, maybe with working out your TDEE and keeping an eye on the amount on feed days for a week or two . Hope fully that'll restart it.
keep us posted

Stick with it. 3 weeks is not enough to assess the effectiveness of this plan. You might be a slow loser like me, but it does work. I weigh every day and it can fluctuate quite a lot, but there is a definite overall downward trend which you can see from the graph I plotted over 10 weeks (sorry a bit nerdy!)

Madge1304, nerds are most welcome. Lovely graph :)

I'm going to stick with it but really am discouraged. My TDEE is 1966 so 500 cals on fast days is spot on. I'll keep a closer eye on my daily intake this week just to see where I'm going wrong

The TDEE calculators are not particularly accurate so I'd take that reading as a rough guide. What has made a big difference for me its to vary my eating a lot, so pigging out at weekends and compensating be eating carefully during the week (as well as 2 fast days) gave better weight loss than eating the same amount every feed day.

Also in 3 weeks there are lots of non-fat weight changes going on.

Ali, a couple of random thoughts:

-Do check for your TDEE here http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
For me, it was the only realistic result.

-Could it be water retention for a reason?

Also, since fat is light, perhaps you lost inches and not weight.

Gosh, I've just worked out my TDEE and it's not much more than 1600 calories. What a swizz! I'd have been able to lose loads of weight on this number of cals in my teens and twenties. Now I have to starve myself to stay the same! Not surprising it's taken me since the end of September to lose 7 pounds!

You won't starve, I promise! 1500 calories are enough to offer you plenty of (good quality) food and a small dessert and you have 100 more to spare!

Hi there TartanAli,

Please stick with this!!! Ok its working for me l have lost nearly a stone in 5 weeks, basically l have 500 calories 2 days a week and dont count calories on feed days, however my friend in Australia did this for 3 weeks and only lost half a pound and then on her 5th week dropped 6lb, l think it does work for everybody but in different ways, l believe it will catch up with you eventually, see how your weight goes in the next 3 weeks, also do you feel different? l have lost nothing this week but got in a pair of jeans that l could not get in 5 weeks ago and l also feel slimmer this week even though it does not show on the scales, so try on some clothes that you have not worn for a while, maybe you will see the difference in your clothes but just not on the scales yet!!! xxx

I do sympathise! I am in the same boat but going to stick with it for a few months and see what happens...Carorees advice sounds worth a try - varying amount eaten on feed days. I have been pigging out rather and feel I should reign that in a bit but maybe not everyday. Hope you stick with it and things improve.

I think Madge1604 says it all. That graph is priceless!
It is a very good illustration of how your weight will fluctuate, but the overall progress is downward.
I know it has made me feel a lot better. (I am also a pretty obsessive weigher myself, and see a difference of up to 3 pounds from one day to next depending on fast/non-fast days.)
Thanks!

I was in the same position, still dont have much of a weight change after 6 weeks but ive lost 2 inches round my waist, which is definately more encouraging!! Stick with it, 3 weeks is too early to give up :)

I was equally discouraged when I stepped on the scale this morning. My weight seems to have gone up again. I think it is water weight. Last time I weighed myself was the morning after a fast, so it appeared as though I'd lost more than I thought. Anyhow, it looks like I need to limit my calories on feast days if I want to continue losing. I have to eat more sensibly. Losing weight is really tough when you are older. Frustrating. Once I reach my goal, I will work very hard to maintain it because losing is too much work!!!

I am going to start weighing myself everyday now.... and look at the overall trend. It might give me a better idea of how much I need to cut back. Going out tonight but may have to skip the beer.
