Which Oatcakes?
04 Apr 2013, 17:37
Recently started the 5:2 diet and looking for new ideas for fast days. Can someone tell me which oatcakes are the ones referred to in the snack section. I love Derbyshire oatcakes but feel sure these will be too high in calories.

Is this in The Fast Diet book? I really don't know. I would guess Nairn's or similar Scottish oatcakes.

Oh, and welcome to the forum by the way! There are some great recipes being posted and Moogie (Admin) is working on a shiny new recipe tool that will make searching for suitable recipes super easy :-D

Paterson's are the nicest oatcakes and are palm oil free, so good for orangutans.

You can get them off Amazon if you can't find them. They're about 50 cals each and I like them or crisp breads as my small lunch.

Some of the 'Rude Health' oatcakes and oatie thins are quite tasty... unfortunately, they're also reasonably pricey but I guess if you're not having many and want to really enjoy what you're eating, it's not a bad thing. Their 'thins' are about 25 calories a thin and their oatcakes are around 50.

I just use the Tesco own brand ones, they're 45 calories each.

I don't believe (but I could be wrong) that one brand is good and a different one is bad - the nutritional content should be on the label, and really on 5:2 its all about the calories.

Home made are THE best! And you know exactly what's in them. And they're dead easy. Not sure about the calorie count though...

A quick google reveals that Derbyshire oatcakes are more like crepes or pancakes. I think it's the Scottish type that the book refers to.
