Less to lose?
09 Apr 2013, 07:43
Hi all,
I am sure this has been asked a hundred times before and I am just not using the right search terms, but has anyone had success just losing 5kg?
I have 5kg to go, and previously was following a daily calorie controlled diet. I have decided to give 5:2 a go, to see if it kickstarts the weight loss, and as it sounds easier to just 'diet' for two days rather than seven.

So has anyone had success just losing 5kg? And if you swapped from a daily calorie controlled diet, did you continue to count your calories on non-fast days?

Cheers,
Lucy

I've got ten kg to lose. Twice as much but not a huge amount.
I think it's worth a shot, and more importantly once you reach your target you can use 5:2 to maintain.

Your body might appreciate the change and what could become normal.
Good luck

I had 5 or 6 kgs to lose starting with a BMI of nearly21. I lost 6 kgs in 9 weeks following 5:2 so it worrked for me.

I want to lose about 6kg and have lost about 2.5kg in 5 weeks so yes it can work. I'd formed some very bad eating habits having stopped smoking 6 months ago and put on this extra weight since then.

The 5:2 approach is definitely helping me manage the grazing I had been doing - particularly of biscuits/other rubbish which before I'd never been bothered about.

I'd go for it and this forum is fantastic to learn and share issues.

So did you gusy count calories on your non-fast days?

No. But I was aware of what I was eating and didn't over eat on the non fast days.

I have been counting what i eat non fast days, eating somewhere between 1600 and 2000 (i.e. up to maintenance), but also exercise at least once, if not twice, on non-fast days, earning between 300-500 calories. I don't know whether years of dieting means this is still too much for non fast days, and i no longer have any faith in my ability to just 'know' whether or not I am eating too much...left to my own devices (i.e. not monitoring calories), I wouldn't stop eating!

I have 7kg to lose and have lost 1kg in two weeks already. Like Franglaise I don't count calories but am aware of the amount I'm eating and tend to eat healthily for 3 of my normal days and give myself more freedom to eat what I want on the other two food days (usually weekends) where I'll go out to eat and probably have a dessert and some alcohol. I've never counted calories before though, as I've never been on a calorie controlled diet, normally just upped my exercise to get rid of any excess pounds - but nearing 50 now and its getting harder to just do it that way. It seems to work so far by just being aware of what you're eating and not overdo'ing it.

Personally I have counted calories for the first few weeks as whilst I usually ate healthily I'd starting eating more and more rubbish. I wanted to make myself see and wake up to how stuffed with empty calories these snacks were and also what they were adding to my daily intake. (Sounds stupid I know!!)

So 5 weeks in I have stopped grazing - apart from the odd biscuit; ice cream yesterday on a trip to the seaside etc! Hitting the 5+ every day - loads of fruit - know there's sugar in it but I'm a believer that if it grows on a tree it can't be bad for you!

The weight is coming off - about a lb a week which is the average and I feel SO much better for it. Ideally I want to lose another few pounds and get back to my fighting weight.

I have about 6kg to lose, I have lost 3kg in 4 weeks. I have been mostly doing 4:3 as I felt like you that it might be hard with few kg to lose - I don't count calories on feast days and I have what I want - cakes, wine, bread, cheese - you name it and I am losing weight. Brilliant.
