Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hi all.

I am new, from Denmark, and I have just started 5:2 diet, my 3. fastday today, and it is going very well indeed, not so hard, as I thought it would be :victory: I need to loose about 20 kilos, but I am very optimistic about this diet.
It is all new to me, so I am still trying to find out the best way for me  I have read the book "The fast Diet", but I do have a question about the Fast day with 500 calories - Because of work I do normally eat breakfast about 6.30 all weekdays, so I guess i can stick to the 12 hours gap between breakfast and dinner - OR - I can eat breakfast and lunch, using all my 500kcal and then nothing before next morning? In that way it will be about 16 hours fasting. Better or same effect? Thanks :-)

Pia
Hi Pia,

I am also new to this WOE but I think more experienced fasters will advise that you can eat at whatever times suits you. For example, I usually eat at 7.30am (yogurt) and an evening meal about 8pm but today I didn't eat until 8pm - so 24 hours without eating and it was absolutely fine.

I hope you get on well with 5:2
Kelly
Hi Pia and welcome!

For your first fasts it's best to do what you think feels right for you. I knew before i started that I wanted to save all my cals until the evening. When you are more comfortable with fasting you can experiment to see if a different arrangement for your meals works better. No one knows (yet) whether there is any advantage to any particular pattern of meals.

Good luck!
Thanks a lot both of you :). I will try a little bit of both during the next couple of weeks - maybe it is also depending on the circumstances. On the first 2 fasting days I was at work, amd it was difficult for me not eating a little bit of breakfast, but today when I was at home on my 3. fasting day, I slept a little longer, didn't even feel hungry during the day, so I saved all for dinner :).
hi pia and kelly- you will find your own way as we all do but it is really interesting how many people here say the same thing- they start with at least 2 meals on fast days and then reduce it to just the one in the evening and it works really well!! We have done the same and now find that eating our 500cal evening meal suits us just fine and it is not too difficult either. So let us know how you get on- ursula

Hi Ursula - For me it is the same - today is my 4th fasting day and today and wednesday I have only eat dinner, and it works perfect for me  . I work in a daycare nursery, with small children from 0-3 years old,and they are eating all day warm food and cold food, and it doesn't even bother me. . SO I hope this 5:2 in the long run will work for me..

Thanks a lot for supporting - Pia
