Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Scale junkie

Hi all, I know lots of people have said not to weigh yourself every day but I can't help it! I do the same with every diet I'm ever on/even when I'm not on a diet. I think I see it as a way of controlling the way of eating i.e. if it is good I'm happy and focussed on my progress, if it is bad I know I have to change it slightly. I know my weight is likely to fluctuate throughout the week but how am I supposed to stay off it each day? Any help?

Hi shel (Michelle?) and welcome to the forum!

Provided you are happy to roll with the punches you can weigh every day, it can give you much better information and although your weight will go up and down - especially with 5:2 - weighing every day will make it more obvious over time that there is a pattern. See kencc's log for instance.

Thanks Dominic, I've just never not weighed myself daily, it's a force of habit! When I've had a really good day, I look forward to waking up and weighing myself, and can deal with it if I haven't lost, that's if I haven't gained hugely anyway! What I don't think I would be able to do is ignore the scales after a fast day. Thanks for directing me to Kencc's blog, it's good to know there are others who find staying away from the scales difficult.

I don't weight daily but I occasionally sneak onto the scales mid-week, I reckon my normal weigh-point (morning after my 2nd day fast) is about 2-3lbs below my 'real' weight. See The Fishbaum's post today - he's a daily weigher like you.

I weigh daily too. It helps me keep my weight under control. It all depends if you can deal with the ups and downs of the measurements. It doesn't ruin my day if I put on a little weight, but it does if I go to a weight I haven't been before for a long time. I then do something about it, quickly!
