If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

No loss and jeans still tight!
11 Apr 2013, 08:28
Four weeks and 8 fasts. No loss yet. I had been on the low carb diet so probably lost the water earlier on that one. Didn't measure my waist but my jeans are telling me that there's no progress there either. I will persevere but it is disappointing.
I'm finding the fasts easier and food tasting better so hopefully I'll start to notice some results soon. Anyone else had a similar experience?
Well I had several wonky weeks where I was fasting properly and not losing - but my blood tests also showed my thyroid levels were too low, so that explains that.

I'm really not sure about going from one diet to another. My understanding of low carb diets is that they usually work because of the implied calorie restriction (i.e. it's hard to eat too many calories when you aren't eating carbs). Is it possible you're eating well above your TDEE on feed days?
Yes, I think Tracieknits is right, any previous weightloss diet will result in a slower loss on 5:2. Are you still doing low carb? If you have changed to eating more carbs it could be that you are having too many calories. Have you changed anything else in your life like exercise, drinks, salt content of food etc?
Thanks for your reesponses.
I have calculated my TDEE. I don't think I'm going over but maybe I should do some proper counting for a while to be sure. The exercise is about the same. I stopped the low carb because although I lost weight to start with it stopped working for me.
Hi Catalena - may I be nosey & ask what your current weight/BMI is and how much you are hoping to lose? I wonder if you are in the healthy BMI range already? Those who don't have a lot to lose will lose much more slowly on average. Just a thought!
Sadly I have plenty to lose. Up to 4 stone although I'd be happy with 3. My TDEE is just over 2000 which is quite a lot. I haven't been particularly good today so far but still have 1000 calories available which is just as well as I'm going out for drinks!
My eating habits are all over the place having been on so many diets for so long. I think the key will be to count calories on my feed days for some time until I get into a new routine. A pain as I'd hoped that this diet would mean I didn't have to. It'll be worth it though.
I've just been checking out the various TDEE calculators and they give massively different results! It's worth checking several sites and bearing in mind the big range of TDEEs they quote when considering whether you may be going over your TDEE or not!

Have a look at my thread on TDEE which has links to lots of calculators: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3364
Yes they do seem to vary! My lowest seems to be 1850.
