I am in my early 50s and have always been a slim build. I have started 5:2 fasting because of the health benefits and wanting to look after myself as I get older. I like the idea of giving my body a rest and it certainly relieves the bloated feel I get after eating carbs. So, I don't actually want to loose weight but want to maintain my weight whilst fasting....is this possible?!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!
If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Dr. Mosley does 6:1 to get the health benefits of fasting without losing weight. Perhaps you could do that?
Good luck

Yes, me too. I did have some abdominal weight to lose but not so much. I am also looking forward to the reduced blood pressure (hopefully) and the increased brain function, haha. (Well, can always hope for that at any rate). What I've noticed, is that the discipline of fasting 2 days a week very positively influences my behavior the rest of the week. I don't know if anyone else has noticed but the control of fasting days seems to benefit my eating habits during the rest of the week.
I too am getting to the point where i want to maintain my weight so it will be interesting to see how this all works out. Good luck.
1)My blood pressure was way too high and the gym trainer said I should see the doctor and take it very very easy! I didn't, but after just a month doing 5:2 it was right down and they asked " how did you do that?!" (By the way, I told them in a very nonchalant way about the 5:2 WOL.. They allegedly hadn't heard of it.)
2) Also hoping for improved memory. I certainly feel " fresher" and more energetic overall.
3)Very important in this household: that on the normal days control is far easier and as a result my recovery this week from a lovely and m horrible chocolate binge has been successful - lost another pound as usual. One is able to recover control.
4)It must be an overall health benefit that food shopping has become more careful and very aware of all the pitfalls and sales pressures.
