Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hi Emma,

I'm quite new, have done 4 fasts over the last 2 weeks and have lost 2lb. I was nervous at first, I didn't know how I would manage to not eat. Would it make me ill? etc. On the first fast I made soup and had some at lunchtime. That was a mistake for me as I couldn't stop thinking about food afterwards, so on the next three I have stopped eating after dinner on Monday, have happily had green tea all morning on Tuesday, bovril at lunchtime and another in the afternoon and saved my calories for a decent dinner with the family, then had green tea in the evening (be prepared to have to get up during the night!) I have found that the low calorie instant hot chocolate drinks are a good idea before bed. I have felt fine, had a headache last week but that was easily remedied with some extra water. I also found that on the Wednesday (after the fast) I' wasn't hungry for breakfast so waited and had an early lunch instead, making the fast approximately 36 hours. I haven't seen any inches come off my waist yet but my clothes are feeling looser.

I have made a start on posting some dinner ideas in the recipe section if you're interested. Good luck :clover:
Hi Emma,
Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll find everyone here very supportive. If you have questions about this W.O.E. there will always be someone here to answer them.
I usually fast on Monday and Thursday but I have a birthday party to go to tomorrow so I'm fasting today. That is the beauty of this eating plan. If something gets in the way of your fast day, you just move it to another day.
We don't seem to have too much interest in this plan in Canada so it's nice to have somewhere to hear from people who are eating the same as you.
Hi Emma
I have just finished my first week on the 5:2 diet. The first day of fasting was quite hard because I kept thinking about food. My second day was yesterday and it was much better. As it was Sunday, we took the dog for a long strenuous walk but I was fine. I drink lots of water and tend to have a couple of cups of green tea. If I am fasting on a day when I am work I tend to spread the eating over the day and have a salad for dinner in the evening.

So, at the end of my first week on the diet I have lost 1kg and i'm quite pleased with that. I entered my results in the progress tracker which is very encouraging.

These forums are excellent for me. I find the information very useful and it's encouraging to hear that others are struggling with the same issues.

Stay in touch and good luck.
Hi Wendy
Can you direct me to the recipe section please? It sounds like a very good idea.

Many thanks

Hi Emma, Welcome :) I'm fasting with you today. There's no doubt it works, although I'm on a bit of a plateau at the moment (it's simply the point at which I would have started to put weight back ON on any other diet LOL).

The best advice I can give is drink, drink, drink

Janeg, thank you for the link, I didn't realise the recipe section was up & running now (blushes) - I only ever pop in to the home page !! Well done & thank you Moogie - for the increased number of posts on the home page, the recipe section, & all your other hard work :)
Hi Emma - glad you found this forum - it's full of friendly, supportive and very knowledgeable people - hope your first fast day goes well - look forward to reading about how it went later on today
