Is there anybody out there?!

Hi All.

Not only am I new to this approach to weight loss I'm also new to the idea of forums!!

Having seen the documentary, read the book and procrastinated for weeks (and weeks) I've finally decided to pick tomorrow as my 1st fasting day. I'm excited and nervous in equal measure. I have a couple of stone to lose and have to admit I've tried every diet known to man in the past. I always succeed in the losing the weight but put it all back on when I consider the diet "over". This style of eating appeals so much because once I reach my target weight I really can envisage being able to accommodate 1 day of fasting in to my week forever more.

Whether you're starting this tomorrow or you've been doing it for months, please come and say Hi.

Emma. x
Hi Emma! Yes, there are loads of us out here :-P

I certainly understand being excited and nervous - I was quite nervous as I had no idea what fasting would be like. Don't worry and just take the day as it happens. You'll find in a week or two that it's just not that big of a deal and you'll get really used to it.

Good luck and welcome to the forums.
And some of us are pretty much always here!

Good luck.
Hi Emma,

I have been doing this WOE for a while now, with ups and downs. I am also fasting tomorrow so good luck :clover: not that you will need it as this is the easiest way of eating that I have found and I have been dieting off and on for 30+ years. I will be with you when we are both a couple of stones lighter and knowing it's going to stay off forever
Hi Emma

Welcome to the forum. Hope you take to this way of eating. It felt a bit strange to me at first and some times I still feel really hungry on fast days.

But I am pleased with my weight loss and I feel better too so I hope it works for you too.

You can get some great advice on here and plenty of support. Let us know how you get on.
Hello Emma
Welcome to the forum & good luck on your first fast day. It is useful for you to read the new to the forum info & FAQs. Like most new things it will be a learning experience getting used to how you react on a fast day. It is important to keep hydrated & you need to choose how you divide up your 500 calories. Many on here choose to eat one meal a day for dinner, but if you have never fasted you may want to eat something during the day. I find once I eat it kicks me off into hunger mode & apart from an occasional tummy rumble that is calmed by a drink, I have not felt uncomfortable. We often mistake hunger for being thirsty which is something I learnt. You may feel chilly so keeping active helps & I have Bovril to help replace salts & pretend it is soup. So just listen to your body & perhaps save some calories for a glass of milk at bedtime to help you sleep? because I didn't settle to sleep as quickly as usual when I first fasted.
Good luck tomorrow.
Welcome. We seem to be scattered all over the world--I'm from a little town outside Las Vegas, Nevada. I've been on here(and on 5:2) for 2 weeks. I find it very liveable and plan to do this for the rest of my life.

I have lost 5 lbs. and hope to lose 14 (1 stone?) more and then maintain on 6:1. Right now I have borderline high cholesterol and have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, and I am hoping to rectify both of these. The people on this forum seem to be unfailingly wise, supportive and kind .

Good luck on your journey.
Hi Emma,
Good luck. I am just beginning my 3rd week and am looking forward to my fasting day today. I fast Mondays and Thursdays. So far lost 2kg.
Welcome on board!
Many people here, all day, any time of the day, from all parts of the planet.
I'm sure you will love it here, I know I can't get enough!
Hi, Bordergirl, you must be from Primm or Jean ??? Lived in Henderson for 7 years but decided we were getting too old to take the heat anymore!!!! Moved back to Southern Cal and I guess we'll stay now. Been on the 5:2 for nearly 2 months and so far, so good . . slow weight loss and the fasts get easier. Am also hoping for better cholesterol and glucose levels. Good luck to you and pamie.
Hi Emma

I'm starting tomorrow too - what are you planning to have for breakfast??!!
Hello!
I started the diet Fri and that was my first fast day, I had a cereal bar at lunch then a tagliatelle ready meal and a whole bag of salad. I was hungry when I went to bed and woke up with a headache yesterday but ate 2000 cals yesterday and enjoyed every single once. I have had 1900 cals 2day which consisted of a healthy fry up and a dominos take out pizza! I am trying 4:3 to start with so fasting on Tues and Thurs and then weigh in on Fri. I hope your first fast day goes well, drink lots of water as I didn't drink enough which I think gave me the headache the next day
Hi Emma.
Welcome to you and everyone else who is new too.
I will also be fasting tomorrow so will be thinking about you all on your first day.
I have been doing this since 7th January, so a part of my life now. Stay focused, positive and keep going. You can do it...... We all can.

Good luck everyone.
Lesley
Wow... What a lovely friendly bunch you are. I'm so glad I joined!
Thank you all for getting in touch.
I think I'm going to try to go for as long as I can tomorrow without eating and just stick with drinking, drinking and more drinking until dinner time?

I can't seem to get my head around the fact that I only have to "be good" for one day and have found myself doing the pre-diet binge tonight, I guess it comes from years of dieting by deprivation.

N-night all. Here's to tomorrow! x
Good luck for tomorrow. I'm fasting too. It will be my 13th. This forum is great for encouragement and information so you've come to the right place.
