Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!
If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!
About 3 years ago I broke some bones in my foot and had to stay off it for 4-6 weeks. I was 61 at the time and taking osteoporosis medicine, D3 and calcium supplements. I was also watching my weight. My diet included some dairy (yogurt, cheese and a little nonfat milk). I healed very quickly without surgery and have had no problems since. From my experience, it would seem to me that your girlfriend might be overreacting.
Good luck, at any rate.
So clearly, from my story and in my personal (non-medically-qualified) opinion I see no reason to avoid intermittent fasting because you have an injury. Just thinking it through logically: even if we assume you need extra calcium for repairing broken bones (which I have no idea if that's even true. Maybe you just need a normal non-deficient amount), there's no real reason you would need to be calcium-deprived just because you fast twice a week. You could just increase your calcium intake a bit on the other five days to make up for it.
With that said, if you're actually concerned about it, of course you should check with your doctor! Personally, I'm not worried about it, and having had a few x-rays now, my own injuries are apparently healing quite normally.
Hope you're not in too much pain and you heal quickly.
