Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Another Newbie

Hi

Just been handed the 2 day summer diet book from the Daily Mail by a colleague, which is funny as I had just downloaded the book for my kindle and have ordered the receipe book.

My fiance and I are planning on doing this together although he only needs to lose about a stone and I have about 6 stone to lose! :dazed: - Although he keeps telling me it's only a stone too  can you tell I haven't showed him my weight on the wii!!!!

We are hoping to start on Monday so that should give me time to read the book and start planning, although this week we plan to eat sensibly as a boost.

Hi Sus1e and welcome to the forum!

The Daily Mail 2 day summer diet is I think an update (for the summer!) of the Two Day Diet by Dr Michelle Harvie and Prof Tony Howell. It is a good and scientifically-validated diet but you need to know it is slightly different from what most (maybe all!) of us here are practising, which is 5:2 as popularised by Dr Michael Mosley in a Horizon programme shown in UK last August and subsequently in a book.

Please have a look at the basic info here by clicking on the blue and green roundels near the top above the word 'forum'.

Lots more help here from everyone - we're a nice bunch (but I would say that wouldn't I  ), and if you want more info on how 'The Two Day Diet' (summer or otherwise) differs from 5:2, let us know!

A quick welcome - I began the 5:2 system two weeks ago and it is working for me!
I think the Daily Mail recommends fasting two days in a row whereas we do not fast on consecutive days and there are so many health benefits besides losing weight. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone for the reply, looks like I am doing a different version from you all as I have Michelle Harvie and Tony Howell book and it says 2 consecutive days fasting.

I don't think it matters too much if you do two consecutive or split days. The 2-day diet does not impose quite such a big calorie deficit and so perhaps two days in a row is easier (but of course in order to compensate for the smaller calorie deficit on the fasting days, the remainder of the week is also a diet unlike the version most of us are doing). Some people do 2 in a row and find them easy, others have found it hard.

I think that many people here have read around the whole topic of intermittent fasting and many are doing their own variations of it with elements of the 2-day diet (Mediterranean diet on feed days, low carb on fast days), eating window (only eat over an 8-hour [or shorter] period each day), Eat Stop Eat (full 24 hours without food twice a week) as well as those who are following the pattern set by Dr Mosley. All are welcome here!! :-D
