Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hello, and sorry!

Hi, I'm new here and already I'm trying to break the Progress Tracker! Sorry! Realised I'd entered my starting weight wrong last night at 10 st, and wanted to correct it to 10 st 5 lb. When I couldn't amend it, I cleverly thought I'd go back in time a day.... but that's just messed things up of course! Can someone reach in behind the scenes and do this for me please? Thank you!

Aside from that, all is well. On first fasting day now, and my only question which I can't seem to find any discussion about is this: Is there any reason not to have far less than 500 calories if that feels right? Even a water fast - zero calories?

Thank you. I'm excited about this. Have NEVER believed is diets, but this feels like a natural way of life.

Hi Emm

If you go to the progress tracker and then to weigh in stats, there will be a line for each update you made. On the far right there is the option to edit or delete the entry. See if you can correct your errors that way. If not, please PM Moogie as she is the only person who can get behind the scenes!

Anyway, welcome to the forum and hope you find this new woe suits you.

It is fine to have less than 500 cals or even nothing at all if you can manage it. However, Dr M felt that this would be too hard to sell to the majority of people. Some are doing it but I have not been brave enough to try it yet! You may change your opinion as you get to the end of your first fast day, so it might be best to get a few practice very low calorie days in before attempting a total fast!

Oh cheers, thanks for the quick reply! In the distant past I've done some multi-day water fasts and found that, once started, somehow it can be easier to eat nothing at all than eat very little. So I'll be flexible about this.

One real advantage to the 500 cal option I guess is that one can keep it all below the radar of friends and family! I love the idea that no one knows I'm doing this!

Hi Emm - I'll fix your initial weight/bmi for you :) I'm sure you understand why this isn't freely editable, in case of malicious users trying to scew the data etc. Should have it amended for you in just a mo.

Brilliant! Thanks so much for your help. Now I'm not gaining/losing 5 pounds in a day :-) I certainly understand - sure that's the only way to make this work.
