5:2 Fast day and exercise
22 Apr 2013, 19:16
So today is my first day with the new 5:2 lifestyle eating plan, good news is it's 8pm and I don't feel hungry (normally by this time, I'd let boredom get the better of me and I'd be munching for munching sake), but as I sit here feeling satisfied, albeit slightly "heady" , I wanted to get your thoughts on how I should manage my exercise routine around my fasting days....

My regular weekly routine consists of
Monday - spinning (45 min intense class) / or Home Ab Workout if class fully booked
Tuesday - 2 mile interval jog (I'm a beginner, so walk for 90 secs, run for 60 sec, and repeat - times will alter as I progress)
Wednesday - body pump (1hr toning class)
Thursday - 2 mile interval jog
Friday - 30 min Thai boxing class
Saturday - step class (1hr aerobic class)
Sunday - 2 mile interval jog

Seems quite a lot eh? I guess now you see my dilemma... Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!

My husband doesn't change his routine at all on fast days. I personally just see how i feel on fast days (and I often feel like skipping it - but surprisingly sometimes I don't).

Good luck

I like to go for a brisk 30 - 45 minute walk every day and am now 'power walking'which raises my heart rate and causes my arms and legs to ache! I am about to do my fifth fast and exercise on fast days, but take it a bit easier on the day after the fast. You certainly do a variety of sports. It seems most Monday Fasters have Thursday as their second fast day of the week which (I may be wrong) coincides with a slightly less active day (interval running) than the Body pump class and Thai boxing.

Hi everyone,
If anyone can clarify and shed some light please?

To burn fat when your glycogen levels are low, ie fasting days, one should keep your heart rate ideally not higher than 65% of you maximum heart rate(or that's what they tell us) to burn body fat.
But at the same time, fast days should be the time you give your body time to rebuild and recover, if I understand it correct.
My question, should we exercise at all? as any exercise will cause damage to the muscle fibres which will need even more repair.

I have been doing this for 11 weeks and not changed my exercise routine at all. I do 2 spin classes, 3 Zumba and one body pump. I have lost inches and can see defination in my arms and abs (under the fat) .I find that I have so much more energy in the classes and am leaping around like a complete loon. !!! Hope that helps .x

I'm interested to hear opinions on this as I do a strenuous boot camp workout 4 days a week. I don't seem to have any trouble doing the workout on fast days, but sure don't want to be doing any damage to my muscles!

Hope for some good replies here.

I did 3 hours of exercise today, hope it doesn't damage my muscles. I had never thought about it before.
