Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Got the book, now what!!
02 Feb 2013, 13:13
Hi to all, bought the book at Waterstones yesterday as I was in there buying another book and they had an offer of buy a 2nd book for half price, so I dazedly came out with a diet book, yet another!!! But this one seems so different from anything I have done before so once again into the breach!!

I have no idea how I have never heard of this diet before but seeing as I don't watch much TV and am a lone worker I have defo missed the office gossip!!

I have my son staying with me but he goes back to Australia on Monday so I will have to start after that as there is too much temptation lying around these here cupboards, fridge and freezer!!

My biggest worry is not about the fast days, it's about going overboard on non fast days, so I'm off now to read up on success stories as a motivator!!

Oh and TBH I don't even know how to eat like a normal person with my brown bread, rice, pasta, low fat this and that and sweeteners, but hey I am a quick learner if nothing else!!

Hi Nivea

Welcome to the forum.

In answer to your question...now read the FAQ (link below, in my signature), that will give you a good start.

Second, don't worry about what you eat on your feed days...even if you overeat at first, after a few fasts you will find your appetite and your relationship to food changing so that you won't over-eat. If you haven't lost any weight (I presume you want to lose weight?) after a month then you can take a look at what you are eating on feed days.

Third, have a wander around the forum and read some success stories!

Oh, and join up to the progress tracker so you can see not only your own progress but see how the forum members are doing as a whole.

Good luck!

Well, it's always interesting to know whether other things are changing in your body apart from weight and waist measurements, so if it's not too much bother, then yes, why not? But I wouldn't go out of my way or delay starting on the new way of life just to get the tests done! ;-)

I'm finding it much harder to overeat on feast days than I used to. My attitude towards eating seems to be changing for the better. I do eat what I want to, though, when I can. I would love to have some blood tests done to see how things change for me over time, but I hate needles.

I don't mind needles, weird I know lol, will do my fast day on Tuesday and also make an appt to see the doctor to make arrangements for the blood test or can I just see the nurse without a referral?

Hi! I have just finished reading the book and going to embark on the 4:3 initially and see how I get on. I am inspired by all I have read and have just come across this forum. However, my main concern at the moment is if it works and weight loss is acheived what are the effects on you body..... i.e loose skin.

hi nivea- not sure how your surgery operates but I made an appointment to see my GP to organise blood tests and to have my blood pressure taken as I started the 5:2 just a week ago- my GP was not very interested, eventhough I have a fair bit of weight to loose and I would have expected a bit of "encouragement" no matter what the diet was.....
let us know how your GP reacts- would be good to know!!
good luck- ursula
