Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!
If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!
Welcome to the forum.
Going ADF straight away is a bit hard core I think!
The first few fasts can be difficult for some people so, it might be easier to start with 5:2 for a couple of weeks and then add in another fast day if you think you need it. Just take each fast day as it comes and bear in mind, if every other day seems too much, that fasting twice a week will still give you a good weight loss. Do have a look at the progress tracker where you can see exactly how fast people in your position have been losing weight. There are not too many data for ADF, but there are some.
If you have a lot of weight to lose you should find that 5:2 will be plenty as the weight comes off quicker when you have more to get rid of. I had 5 stone to lose and have been doing 5:2 since the start of November, I am now over 1.5 stone down and am happy with my rate of loss of around 1-2 lb per week. I am keeping 4:3/ADF up my sleeve for later on when the weight loss is likely to slow as I near my target weight.
Of course, it is entirely up to you but I don't want you to make things so hard at first that you are less likely to keep up with the lifestyle.
Whatever you choose to do, you are always welcome here for chat and support!
