Hi, I'm Susan and I live in France. My brother in the UK lost 8kgs following this diet so I've decided to give it a try. This is my third fast day and I don't find it too difficult (have decided to do the 24 hour fast so save all my calories for the evening). Lost over 2lbs the first week. I just want to lose a little weight as I've never been below 60kgs, and then intend to fast one day a week to maintain weight. So far so good, and have been spreading the word amongst French friends. Good luck to everyone!

Welcome Franglaise! :D Sounds like you're doing well, especially to be doing the full 24 hours this early on into the lifestyle. I started out having lunch & dinner, took me about 2 months to swap on to just a 500cal dinner. I love this lifestyle! Fasting today and looking forward to my dinner tonight - trying something different for a change, which should be more like 450 cals.

Hi Moogie
Thanks for the welcome! I'm quite used to skipping lunch so it hasn't been too difficult to do the 24 hour fast, even on days when I run. I'm doing the same days as you, Monday and Thursday. It was nice to have a weekend away without having to watch what I eat (and drink!). That's the reason I like this diet - the freedom on non fast days.

Bonjour Franglaise. I am French and live in UK. I noticed the French don't have the book yet. I wonder what they'll thing about this new way of life. I started 3 little meals when I started but now I find it easier to keep my 500cal for dinner. Bonne Chance!Xx

Hi Pashcaline,
Everyone I have told about it is a little shocked - mainly at the thought of not eating lunch, or regular meals (as you know, the French tend not to snack between meals). I'll let you know if I convert anyone. I found it easier to keep the 500cals for one meal too, rather than spreading them out over the day. There aren't enough to do that satisfactorily!

Bonjour. I also live in France. :) I have been doing 5:2 since mid-November last year, with a slight break for Christmas/New Year. I have a lot of weight to lose, not helped by the lovely French food and wine, but this way of life lets me still eat out without worrying. I also find I am making healthier choices (usually) on non-fast days. Bon chance.

I'm not realy fond of the patisserie...but love most other food here and my French OH is a very good cook. But he is watching his weight too so we try and eat 'lite'. He isn't keen on doing the 5:2 diet, I have tried to persuade him, but he showed as much enthusiasm as he did when I introduced him to Marmite
