Hi,
I've been following 52 for around 10 days now. My third Fast Day was yesterday.
Am not at all well today, think caught a bug - full of chills etc - so not a good day for a long introduction - as and when I feel ok, will browse the site.

Thanks. Starting to feel bit better again now. After a day of fasting yesterday and a morning feeling full of cold my stomachs starting to tell me I need a mug of soup. Quick. Rumbles are getting v loud.

This is the second time during fast days that I experience chills throughout the day. I am not sick. I noticed the chills on Monday during my fourth fast day. Today on my 5th day it is happening again. I am drinking warm/hot water and am now having a mug of bouillon to help fight off the chills. Any others with this experience and any advice? I am about 15- 20#s over recommended weight and am in good health except for high triglycerides.

Hi Swampqueen and welcome to the forum!

Getting cold on a fast day is a known side-effect - I get it too occasionally. It is probably because your metabolism is reacting to the shortage of calories and slowing down to save energy. Of course a slowing metabolism also means you lose less weight!

If you can, take some exercise, this burns calories and warms you up. If you haven't the time or inclination for lengthy exercise, consider HIIT ('high intensity interval training'). I do 3 x 20 second bursts on a cycle machine and feel much better and warmer for it! I got this idea from Michael Mosley too (via Caroline on this forum, of course!)

P.S. what is a '#'?

Eating food warms you up because of the energy needed to digest it results in releasing heat. No/little food = feeling cold! HIIT really does warm you up though!

I blame winter!!! If it was 30C and sunny outside we wouldn't be having this conversation!!!

Haaaa haaaaaaa! It is not as good as you think. This year, I spent 6 weeks (not consecutive, thank God) without phone/internet because of the storms. It might not be as cold as it is in the UK but it is still winter. And most of us survive it without (or with minimum) heating.

It's not easy, especially to those with kids. (Not me, I'm just saying.)
It's weird, we only had 2 days of snow this year. We usually get good snows. We get snowed in, the supermarkets empty because of panic buying, snow ploughs get stuck in narrow roads, people ski on the streets, there is no water in the pipes... all the fun. Thank God this winter was mild snow-wise because I can't imagine how people would struggle with no heating.

Thanks for the replies y'all. I have been thinking of the HI workout idea, I do have an elliptical bike but thought I would concentrate on getting the Fast diet routine down. I can't tell you as a new user how great it is to hear that chills are normal and to have people tell you why and what to do about it. Just finished my 6th fast day, in a little over three weeks I have lost six pounds. I am so happy as I have tried many diets to lose those extra 15-20 pounds (with biking and walking) and have had little success. I am a healthy eater and I do enjoy fresh foods and I walk daily. I am so TIRED of being on a diet of one sort or another with little results. This has been a great three weeks. The weight seems to be coming off my middle. Thanks to all the people who add their comments to the forum. Helps newbies to find a pattern in reading the experiences of others.
