Feeling funny

I've been doing 5:2 for a few weeks now. I eat all of my 500 calories at dinnertime on fast days.

Every fast day, after I eat dinner I feel what can only be described as 'a bit funny' and then I get a bout of diarrhoea (sorry if TMI).

Is this normal and will it settle down in time? Perhaps it's just my body getting used to the new routine?

Hi Ripley

I've heard of a bit of tummy upset occurring but not really like you are describing. What kind of things are you eating for your fast day meal?

The first few fasts I had a bit of the runs the following day, but it seems to have settled down now.
I think it may just be the body adapting??

Same here during the first 3 fast days - not a problem anymore. Either because my body adapted, or because I start and end fast days with a spoonful of psyllium husk as a bulking medium. That stuff has been helpful for loose bowels also in other circumstances than fasting.

It seems to have settled down now, for the past 2 fasting days I've been fine. Thanks!

I only find I get that problem if I overreat on a feed day. My body definitely tells me if I've eaten too much, and if I ignore it then it goes ahead and 'rejects' what I've eaten via the, er, back door.
