Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

First post - third week!

Hello! I thought that I would join this community in order to pick up, and pass on, hints, tips and experiences. I have been a calorie-counting, yo-yo dieter for over thirty five years and after seeing the re-run of Dr Michael Mosley's Horizon programme in January I decided that it was time to try another way to be both healthier and slimmer. My husband has agreed to give it a try too, so we are in it together!

I have always been a good dieter but an even better eater! I am hoping that this will enable me to find a way of eating which will be a lifestyle change not just a temporary solution.

I have found the fasting days fairly easy, so far, as long as I keep busy - my house hasn't been this clean for years! I am making a big effort not to count calories on non-fasting days, but it is very hard after so many years! I am aiming to eat a 'normal' diet but have to remind myself that my usual 'normal' is what led me to put on weight in the first place!

So, our house has become a cake, biscuit, pudding free zone. Fasting days are Mondays and Thursdays with all of our calorie allowance eaten in the evening. Weigh-ins take place first thing on a Sunday morning (after all you have to optimise your opportunities to register a good loss!)

The result, so far? In two weeks I have lost 7.5lbs and my husband, 5.5lb - he has less to lose than me - and our BMI is on the way down! It's early days but we are feeling very positive. I'll let you know how we get on!

Well done both of you!

Have you both entered your progress in the tracker? We need more data...especially for men!

Thank you for this post! It's amazing how organised you are! Today was my first day of fasting which went surprisingly well! The problem is my normal eating days are normally naughty and I'm going to have to change my habits considerably :( , which will make it feel like a diet !!
Well lets see how it goes and thank you again xx

You can still be a bit naughty! I've been having a sweet treat with morning coffee and/or a dessert after dinner and/or a glass of wine on feed days and still lost weight.

Thank you both for taking the time to read my post.

Carorees: I would like to be a 'bit naughty' on my non-fasting days but I still haven't managed to get out of my old calorie-counting habit. My difficulty is that I tend to be an 'all or nothing' kind of an eater and if I have treats in the house I am concerned that both my husband and I would trough through the lot! However, I am hoping that I can change my mindset over the coming weeks and stop my rather obsessive approach to 'dieting' and adopt a more balance WOE.

Lisa: I hope that you continue to enjoy the 5:2 way of eating (WOE) and I look forward to following your progress. I don't think that you have to give up everything you love to eat, just modify it slightly - or at least that is what I am aiming for! I live in hope!
