Another newbie here!
12 Feb 2013, 12:32
Hello, I'm new and excited to be here. I'm currently aiming to lose about half a stone at the moment. My goal has been (for the last couple of years) 9 stone 4, which was my 'first date weight' when i started dating my now husband. I could be less than that at only 5ft 1, but I liked how I felt then - not too skinny and not too big.

I'm guessing it will be a slower process as I don't have a huge amount to lose, although I think my BMI will still be towards the top end of normal, so I'm hoping not too slow a process!

I started my first fast day yesterday lunchtime (decided to do a 24 hour fast day from 1pm to 1pm) but on my next fast day, I'm going to try for the longer slog of 36 hours. I don't think I can manage not eating until dinnertime though, but my current thinking is a light breakfast, a cup-a-soup and a dinner of around 250 cals.

Will probably be a trial and error thing until I find what works for me.

Had planned to do Monday to Thursday regularly but this Thursday is Valentine's Day and I've already booked a restaurant so I'll do Wednesday this week.

Looking forward to the journey!

Hi mrsbrockodiets,

Im also new to the forum and its nice to see a fellow shortie im 5ft 2 but hoping to lose a bit more than you!

I was doing the 24hr fast from lunch time to lunch time or dinner to dinner but didnt see any results after 2 weeks then found out most do 36 hours so I did my first day of that yesterday!

Im also swapping Thursday for wed this week due to valentine's!

I find having 300 cal at lunch and 200 around 8pm works for me as I generally train around 5pm and wouldn't want to do it with no food! Well that's what i did yesterday im sure a plan will emerge as the weeks go on!

Hurray for us newbies!

Huggyk

Hi HuggyK,

Thanks for the reply! How did you find your first 36hr fast compared to your 24hr fast? Was it much harder?

I've just had my lunch after my 24 fast and it was certainly extra delicious!

Definitely think 36 hours is probably better in the long run but I just hate being hungry. It will be a good discipline to have though.

Hi

I didn't find the 36hour fast much harder than the 24hour one at all! I even managed not to eat until 12pm today (tho i wasn't up very early).

I think I didn't get hungry as I didn't think about food that much. I had training in the evening so that kept me occupied! I did manage to let my lunch of 2 slices of brown bread and air dried ham last 45 mins so it felt like i was eating alot!

I think this will be a good way of eating for me, I don't seem to find it hard but I've always been able to go for long periods without food! I think im the only(or one of few) baby that managed to loose weight in the first few months without being sick or anything, despite my mothers best efforts to feed me!!

Maybe give the 36 hour fast ago and see what happens! Others I believe do 24 hours also but don't consume their calorie allowance!

Well it's been a pretty horrible day. I woke up in a real funk (got some personal/health issues that are on my mind) so I decided that today would be a 1pm to 1pm fast rather than a 36 hour fast.

I was feeling a little better by this afternoon but then got some sad news from a friend so felt worse. Normally I would reach for the food (definitely an emotional eater) but I'm determined to stick to 250 cals tonight and then 250 tomorrow morning. Next Monday and Thursday I'll definitely be doing the 36 hour fasts.

Just bought a ton of veg to stirfry tonight! Now to weigh it and make sure I don't go over my limit.

Roll on tomorrow and Valentine's Day (well, more the lovely meal out with my husband!).

How you getting on today?

Hello, I am also new on here. I have been doing a bit of reading up on the diet. I haven't started or purchased the book yet but am hoping to get started on it this week.

Hi

Welcome Hedonisma, let us know how you get on on your first fast day!

Im not too bad today so far Iv only had an apple and have dinner in the oven now as I type much later than anticipated so very hungry now!

Iv noticed Iv started getting bad breath even after brushing my teeth so Im a bit worried that my body might be burning its protein rather than fat.
Im into sports and at the moment training for a weightlifting competition so loosing protein is not ideal at all! Im going to give the diet another week or two and if I don't lose any weight or especially if I become weaker I think ill have to pack it in!

The bad breath is a sign of burning fat not protein so that's a good thing. It means you are in ketosis. Fasting results in growth hormone release which protects against protein loss. There are loads of body builders doing IF and getting into ketosis is a big thing for them...google it!

Hey,

Good to know its the fat burning and not the protein thanks!

Just like to clarify that im not a body builder :P
I do Olympic weightlifting and a beginner at that! :)

How did everyone's week go this week? My official weigh in is monday morning but had a sneaky jump on the scales this morning and im down 700g. not bad considering a fatty meal on thursday and friday oops! ! but its more than I lost in the previous 2 weeks combined (ie. nothing)

I have started the 5:2 diet and it been going well for the last month and I have had dramatic weight loss but my wife is driving me mad about the "bad breath".

It was helpful to read on this forum its because the fat is burning and is safe.

Can anyone suggest anything for the bad breath?

Many thanks
