First fast and it's going well
12 Feb 2013, 17:30
Hello all!
Started my first fast today. Couldn't start yesterday, because Monday is 'going out for lunch' day for hubby & me. In fact, most days are going out for lunch days, which is why I'm carrying a stone of lardy bottom around with me at the moment!

The fast is going well - luckily I don't ever get hungry (I eat because i'm greedy and love food!) so despite no food for 17 hours I feel fine. Apart from the embarrassing stomach gurgling caused by drinking on an empty stomach! It will be interesting to see how I feel when I get back from salsa tonight (we go to salsa classes 3 times a week) as I was planning to fast until then. Hope the lack of food doesn't effect my smooth salsa moves :)

I'm Lynn - I'll be officially entering my mid-50s in April. I'm married to Rod, who took early retirement a couple of years ago. Since then, we've been indulging our love of city breaks and fine dining. We have two sons, both at university, three cats and two dogs. I love food (don't we all?) various crafts, reading, crosswords, travel, my Nexus 7 and being lazy.

I hope to get to know you all better as my bottom becomes less lardy and my jeans less clingy!
Hi I'm starting the fast tomorrow. I'm quite scared that I'll get hungry and abandon what I have planned to do. There's a family history of heart problems and I'm determined to have a healthy lifestyle. I love my food and don't really eat rubbish so I decided to do this 5:2 fast diet.
I had porridge with berries for breakfast. Also had a black coffee. Have drunk water and green jasmine tea to stop the "munchies". Lunch was a soft boiled egg on some steamed green beans and mushrooms cooked in a teaspoon of olive oil. This evening I'll have monkfish fillets cooked in foil, steamed spring greens and tender stem broccoli. That'll be it for tonight, apart from water, green tea or peppermint tea.

Tomorrow I hope to go without breakfast or lunch and eat chicken breast cooked with tinned tomatoes and onion. I'll steam some curly kale and fry some spinach with garlic + ginger. However, I hate weighing every single ingredient and find it's calorie value.

I need to shift 1 -1.5 stones.
Hi Bala

Looks like you are well prepared for tomorrows fast. The fact that you had a low carb for dinner should help as will lack of carbs and not eating till tomorrow evening.

Drink lots, and I mean lots, it will really help.

Check in on our fasting today thread tomorrow and keep us updated as to how you are doing and chat with other fasters.

Good luck!
Hi Everyone. Also started today and apart from a few grumblings from my confused stomach everything is going well... I think. I have found it extremely hard to follow a diet in the past and really enjoy food.

I love cooking and (hard to admit this to myself) am greedy. Portion control has always been difficult for me and as i eat fairly quickly, my stomach does not have time to register that i have had enough.

This is the 1st blog i have ever posted and hopefully by tracking my progress i will find the commitment / support to a healthier way of life.
Well... my salsa didn't suffer :) I felt fine, even after a couple of very fast dances. Had my one meal of the day when I got back, so I went 23 hours without food. Didn't suffer any hunger pangs, but as I also don't get the 'I'm full' message, I've found it easier to eat nothing than to eat less.

Looks like this might be one diet I can actually stick to :)
