The best time to weigh yourself
12 Feb 2013, 18:07
Hello, I've been doing the 5:2 diet for three weeks now. I've found that the fast days get easier. My only problem is I get an upset stomach after I eat on fast days. I usually wait and eat my cals at the same time. My question is when do you prefer to weigh yourself during the week? Do you do it before your first fast of the week or after your second fast day? I know I should only weigh myself once a week so when is the best time? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance! :)
I'm planning on sticking to weighing myself every week on the same day (Friday).
My fast days have changed every week depending on my social calendar, but I plan on sticking to the same day for weigh ins.
Good luck.
Hi karma and welcome.

You are not the only one to have an upset stomach after eating on fast days. I have spotted at least three others...

Thinking about it, I have often felt slightly uncomfortable in my stomach after eating on fast days and after breakfast on the first feed day. I discovered that if I cut down my portion sizes I felt fine. It seems odd after not having eaten for 24 hours that I should need less than 500 cals not more and the same next morning. But when I cut my meals by a third I felt much better afterwards.

I do find it psychologically difficult to force myself to put less on my plate...my brain and stomach don't appear to be communicating very well!

Regarding weighing...I go for the morning after my second fast...might as well try to record the lowest possible weight!
I think the key to weighing yourself is to do it at the same time each week to try to have the least fluctuation due to other factors. I do it on Saturday mornings after getting up and going to the loo, but before breakfast or shower/bath.
Out of interest, could the upset stomach be Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Some people suffer from it without even realising and it can be triggered by stress.
I always weigh myself Friday mornings, after my second fast day.
