Lyndar's progress

Hi, I am trying the 5:2 diet for the first time this week, with my first fast day today. Last May I substantially cut down on my carbohydrate intake and have noticed that I don't get nearly as hungry as I used to. I lost 12lbs between May and September last year but need to lose a further 2 stone (ideally a little more). At around 5ft 3ins and 151lbs my target is to get a little below 9st. However, although I haven't changed my diet since September I have been unable to lose any more weight. Good news is, it hasn't gone up either!

Hence, I have decided to give the 5:2 diet a try. So far today I have had a breakfast of around 250 cals and plan to have a small meal (250 cals) around 7.30 tonight. Since going low carb, I can quite often go all day without eating and don't feel hungry, yet today, I am really finding that I am conscious that I haven't eaten and when I do, it won't be very much. I believe it will get easier with practice but I didn't expect it to be this hard. 500 cals is sooo little!

I had a bowl of porridge this morning instead of my usual eggs. I won't do this in future as I think the eggs, apart from giving me more protein in the day, keep me satisfied for longer.

Have been trying to get my blood pressure down as it is normally 140+ over 80+. I don't think it's way over but I would prefer to see it normally under 130 and under 75.

Haven't had any tests, cholesterol or blood pressure done at the doctors and am wondering if I should, but trying to get a doctor's appointment with my doctor takes some time.

I am female, in my late 50's and would really like to hear experiences of IF from other women around my age.
Hi Lynda and welcome to the forums!

The fast days will get much easier, believe me! If you are finding you are not hungry with low carbing, I would suggest trying to skip breakfast and lunch and have all your cals in the evening. Many if not most people who have tried this prefer it. Once you eat something you switch on your hunger which will not be satisfied with a very small meal.

I am in the early 50s and also looking to lower my bp. It has come down slightly but not enormously so I don't think the doc will let me lower the medication yet.

It is probably worth getting some baseline(ish) readings from the doc so you can see how its going.

Good luck!
Thanks Caroline, I plan to do day 2 on Thursday so I may give it a try. That also has the advantage of giving the body a rest from digesting food for longer as well. I'm just amazed at the tricks the brain plays 'though, as I'm sure I'm not normally this hungry at this time of day even when I've only eaten breakfast.
