Clinical trial got constipated people to eliminate most of the fibre from their diet and observed significant reduction in symptoms for those who reduced fibre the most.
I think the commentary from Dr Briffa (your second link) is interesting: it is the whole grains rather than the fruit and veg that need to be reduced. Certainly large amounts of fruit and veg do not lead to constipation in my experience. However, grains, particularly wheat seems to cause a lot of people problems.
I thought it must be my imagination but I am definitely 'going' more often now. Probably something to do with the 'traffic jam' analogy made in the study. My gut is getting a rest and is able to move things through more quickly now that I'm abstaining from food regularly.
It'a also occurred to me that I'm probably drinking a lot more which would also help.
