book on fasting written 1899

Hi

I have just downloaded a free book on Amazon 'The No Breakfast plan and the fasting cure' written by a MD in 1899. According to reviews not very scientific but a quaint read. Might make a change from all the modern books on the market. If I ever get chance to read it, I am always on here.
Yes, I've read that too...its great isn't it!

thanks, that shows I haven't dug deep enough into the previous topics, its worth a read then is it.
Yes I got it on my Kindle. I starting reading it on holiday & felt re-assured that not eating when I had Dysentary, plus previous fasting experience, & listening to my body was OK. I found it fascinating particularly the realisation that the brain takes care of its nutrition needs when fasting.
Thanks for tidying up after me dominic! ;-)

Not often I get to correct you Caroline, I enjoyed it!
Dewey's book makes for fascinating reading, as does this one by Upton Sinclair from a few years later:

It's interesting that questions Sinclair identifies as needing further research still haven't been answered, and the medical establishment and public at large remain dismissive. It's encouraging, though, that more research is now being focused on fasting.

A lot of material from the heyday of the Natural Hygiene movement is now in the public domain and available for free. Some of it is quaint, some of it is hype, and some of the scientific explanations are of course out of date, but the case histories of fasting are reassuring and often riveting.
