You might find the segment on bacteria in the gut interesting as discussed in the latest Health Report a regular Australian ABC Radio programme
There was an article on the BBC about this a while back, which we discussed here: topic2809.html
And then there was another thread on the topic here: topic10562.html

A very interesting subject. It's a shame that probiotics don't seem to help, but I think we discussed in the first topic I've linked to above about pre-biotics, particularly inulin, which researchers found encouraged the growth of one of the bacterial species that seemed to be associated with lower weight in the mouse studies.
