This rather depressing article: http://healthinsightuk.org/2015/03/16/c ... -fat-cats/ investigates the true nature of the relationship between industry and our nutritional experts that was highlighted in an analysis published last month in the BMJ (British Medical Journal); Sugar: spinning a web of influence.) It comes in four parts and is, sadly, behind the BMJ paywall.

It is truly shocking but no surprise at all to me - but good to read again. There is absolutely no way a company will not advertise it's products because they are unhealthy. ...and marketing is total bullxxx...I know it is my job. At the end of the day you are the office arm of a sales rep who needs to sell.

I also suggest reading the following book (for those interested in understanding the human context behind the issues and limits within the current process) :

I dislike Burne's piece. Conflict of Interest Declaration, I personally know some of the people he's dragged into this and weren't part of the BMJ item.

Ugh
I no longer take any notice of 'official' advice, and this is one reason why.
These same junk food purveyors heavily fund the American Diabetes Association, whose recommendations heavily influence WHO and other national bodies.
As a result, the ADA has successfully waged a decades long campaign to keep doctors and patients ignorant of how effective it is to cut carbs. The ADA tells people with diabetes to eat grains and sugary fruits and then take 3 or four medications to counter the damage they do. So many people with diabetes have suffered so much harm following the guidelines they give to doctors.
I've been aware of this for years, but it never stops making me angry.
