Ooh, yes, forgot to mention baklava!
when I went in a supermarket on Majorca there was a vast area of meats, sausage, cheeses etc. Vegetables were modest by comparison and I couldn't find raspberries !
I thought the Mediterranean diet was sun, sangria and... what was the other one? The Two Day Diet could be a winner!

The five day regime -
Calorie ceiling based on sex, age, weight. 2000 for me, 1800 for a 10st 40yr old woman.
Range of protein based on same parameters, 7-14 servings for me, 5-8 for the hypothetical woman.
Same dairy and veg, 2 portions of fruit. Wider choice of fruit & veg with higher carbs.
Slightly less fat / oil - 5 instead of 6 portions etc.
Carbs - Max 11 servings for me, 7 for above woman. A serving is a slice of wholegrain bread, tablespoon uncooked rice, heaped tbsp porridge or muesli, 1 weetabix, small baked potato in skin, tablespoon flour etc etc.
I hope someone creates an app or customisable lists for people to use

Seems far too complicated, but it is pretty sound advice isn't it?
Seems sound enough, and it's simpler if you're just looking at yourself rather than all the permutations like I am.
Also a breast cancer survivor, very sorry that I could not get to Bristol, and not happy with the constant promotion of lots of dairy food for us.
OH and me do a whole can of organic vegetable soup each on fast days, about 150 calories tops, and very filling. Extra veg if we are hungry - which we usually are!

My mum is a breast cancer survivor and she would never have gone for this for the same reason as bellalou - wanted to enjoy life. I read lots about diet at the time and like isis found the bristol diet was best I found. She didnt do that either but has been healthy for many years now.
I do think cutting down dairy is good advice for b/cancer sufferers. I'm trying to cut down on it too and 5:2 helps me loads with that - dairy free fast days.

I live in the mediterranean region in Macedonia and the diet here is terrible. Way too much meat, cheese and overly oily foods and not enough fruit and veg. Also people are using all these artificial ingredients, for example they don't sell fresh cream here, all they've got is artificial cream made from vegetable proteins,it doesn't even contain milk. Suitable for vegans but there's nothing natural about it. We buy cows milk straight from the farm and i skim the cream off, collecting it to make natural butter or to use in a cake. Nobody know's what it is when i serve it, and i get really mad if people refer to it as 'slag' which is this artificial powder stuff you mix with milk and whip up to make cream, it's really fowl.
The baklava is good though, had some this morning, it's soaked in syrup though and not at all good for you, like most of the food here.
Funny thing though, i used to live in Greece too and the vegetarian options there are fantastic. I used to be veggie and loved the food in Greece, but when i moved here it became really difficult and there was never anything i could order when we went out for a meal. All they do is BBQ meat. The only veggie options on the menu is chips ( if you're lucky enough to go somewhere that does chips ) or salad. There are a few pizza places which are good though, but that's technically Italian food, not Macedonian. This is another reason why we grow our own veg and i buy lots of seeds from the UK as they don't have shit here. Would also like to start up a wee cafe selling healthy foods available to take away like various soups, fruit smoothies, baked potatoes ect, but all with natural organic ingredients and no BBQ's in sight! I can dream.......i doubt anyone would try it, people are scared of change here.

That's set me off dreaming of my summer holidays!

I too am a breast cancer survivor and received no advice regarding diet from the NHS. The main reason for me starting the 5:2 diet last year was because I wanted to reduce the chance of recurrence but I wanted to lose weight as well. I've now lost just over two stone and have more to lose before my BMI falls into the healthy range. Well done Dr. Mosley for discovering a diet that I can finally stick to and that, hopefully, will keep me cancer free
Exactly my reason for starting 5:2 Roxie.
So many of us on this forum. Scary isn't it?
When at weight watchers there was a lady who had breast cancer, and I remember thinking if I was a breast cancer survivor there's no way I'd be worrying about my weight!
Now I know where she was coming from.
I lost 20 kilos when I was having chemo, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it for weight loss! Lol
We're all in it together. I'm proud to be doing something positive to improve my health.
We all should be no matter what our circumstances....
Good luck all my girlie survivors. ( and everyone else of course!)
