The 5:2 Lab

Do we know if there's any 'optimal' number of days between fasts? I know that 5:2 came from ADF where there's obviously just a single day gap - but have we figured out whether keeping that 1 day gap and then 4 days of normal eating is best? Or is it better to have 2 days gap with 3 consecutive feed days?

The reason I ask is that I have been fasting on Mondays and Wednesdays since I do reasonably intensive gym workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I cycle an hour every day though so still doing some exercise. However, I had noticed that my legs were more fatigued by the end of the week so wondered if perhaps the combination of fasts, exercise and limited recovery fuel was the reason. This week I haven't fasted on Wednesday since had a work event so instead fasted today, went to the gym as normal and will fast again on Monday. I'll be interested to see how fresh my legs feel comparatively tomorrow and Saturday on the bike.
No hard data, but most people seem to leave 2 or 3 days between fasts.

I think it might depend on how well your appetite is suppressed during the long gap, plus whether you can cope with a fast after a short gap when you may not have eaten up to TDEE due to the reduced appetite after fasting.

As with most things it depends on you!
