The 5:2 Lab

Just spotted this paper about the changes in hunger during the day: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23456944
Explains why resisting snacking in the evening is hard and why skipping breakfast is easier than skipping dinner on a fast day.
This began happening to me in the last two weeks, after doing 5:2 for approx. 8 weeks. Since I started snacking in the evenings, I have re-gained 6 of the 8 pounds that I had lost. :(

I am hoping that by switching to 4:3, that I can get back in the groove of fasting and losing again.

Evenings have always been my danger time too.
I've always put it down to a glass of wine making me crave savoury snacks and junk in general, but perhaps there's more to it than that.
Very interesting!
I could never skip breaky. Skipping breaky for me would mean to skip coffee and if I skip coffee my day will turn into a nightmare. My worst days are the ones when I have to go for my blood tests. Going out of the house without my morning coffee, means that I hardly see where I step.
I agree can manage no breaky but come 8.00pm I could eat a scabby dog. Today non fast day and just enjoyed healthy dinner and a large glass of Sancerre nom nom
I don't really like breakfast - apart from coffee - much to the disgust of the myriad of doctors/dietitians etc who I've gone to sea about losing weight, so I love the fact that no one forces you to eat it on this diet. I agree about the evening attacks but also get really twitchy around 4pm. Wish there was a magic wand!
That paper is really interesting and may explain why I have had sudden cravings at night, after my evening meal for sugar. This only happens on feast days!? On my fast days it seems OK?
