1 year as a mainteneer

Well, I started 5:2 18 months ago, nice & easy to remember that I reached my target weight 6 months later, so that now makes 12 months on maintenance :)

My weight loss was a classic 1lb / week & achieved through a rigorous classic 5:2 with an occasional 16:8 if I needed it (due to excessive dining out or similar).

Maintenance started with roughly 1 5:2 a week & gradually moved towards a 16:8 instead as 5:2 was causing me to carry on losing weight which I didn't want.

I weigh EVERY DAY & know that without doing that I would not maintain. AS SOON AS I go anywhere over my target weight I 16:8 or 5:2 to get myself back in line, although it's now pretty rare as I am clearly naturally eating less & enjoying skipping an occasional meal just because I don't need it.

I am thrilled to have been at target for 1 WHOLE YEAR, something I have never achieved before in my life. I'm also very happy to know that I have the tools to stay there.

Couldn't have done it without 5:2 & this fabulous forum

Many congratulations on your year in maintenance - that is such an achievement.

Your maintenance choices seem to be of the sort that Barbara Berkeley of Refuse to Regain suggests as good guidelines. :)

Long may you flourish in your maintenance. :clover:

That's fantastic, Annie! This way of eating has really worked for you. You must be one of the forum members who has been maintaining for the longest. :)

Do you have any particular tips, beyond what you have mentioned in your post? Any thing that works really well for you, or doesn't work so well. I know there is a lot of variation in what works and doesn't for different people, but it is useful to hear about individual experiences. (I guess I could look at some of your other posts, these may well tell me.)

Best wishes :)

Regarding particular tips, the one thing that I didn't mention that helps me beyond belief is ZERO NOODLES - I know they're not to everyone's taste but as long as you give them a really good rinsing & have them with something nice & tasty then they're an excellent filler with no calories. I probably have them at least 3 times a week (we were big pasta eaters)

Thank you so much for sharing! I find it so inspirational to see how others have lost the weight and kept it off. There was a post awhile back about people regaining weight, which is of course important to talk about, but it's just as important to keep the success stories in mind since we'll all have ups and downs along the way.
Congratulations!

Absolutely fantastic Annie, I know all too well how hard it is to maintain weight loss. You and the others who are finding fasting sustainable past the getting to goal are inspirational :like:
