Weight Maintenance

5 posts Page 1 of 1
Hi all

I am 1.9 lb away from my solstice challenge and I have decided that this weight will be my target weight for maintenance. So hoping to join you guys very soon.
I use the true app which is apples version of libra and it is 11 stone that I am wanting to see on that to achieve my goal.
Do you all tend to have a range that you are happy with and did you aim for the lowest weight in that target before you started maintaining or like me did you have a goal weight to start with then have a range in mind. What sort of range do you allow yourself? I am thinking of aiming for between 10 st 12 lb and 11 st 2 lb.
Thanks in advance for you replays
Hi Michelle

Congrats on getting so close to your goal weight - you must be feeling very pleased, especially as you have lost quite a bit of weight in a relatively short time. :D :D

My goal weight was set very arbitrarily when I started to use the progress tracker - had to put something in! By that stage I had already lost quite a bit of weight - more than I had expected to, so it was quite ambitious really.

As you can see from my PT, I got to my goal pretty steadily and quite easily. However maintenance has proved more challenging. I continued with 5:2 once at goal, as I was interested to see what happened to my weight - and it is almost like a being on a trampoline... I can get under goal occasionally, but always bounce back to goal and usually above; I then use fasting to get back down again to goal, and this cycle just repeats. (I have given up putting info into PT for the moment.) It makes me wonder how I ever lost weight in the first place!

So I need 5:2 to keep at goal. If my weight is above goal, I have 2 fasts a week. If it is below goal, it is never long before my weight goes back up so it is back to 2 fasts a week - if you follow. I have had some serious indulgences while on maintenance tho - eg put on 3 kgs over a weekend due to carb overload, but of course a lot of this was water, and 2 fasts generally is enough to get rid of the excess.

Not sure if this is helpful. Your idea of a range seems sensible and quite common. Do have a look at the Maintaining this month threads, as these are full of info about the various strategies people are using.

Very best wishes for your future maintenance! :)
It is one of those things that is different for different people. The best thing to do is set a goal as you have and adjust as necessary. Personally I want to keep my weight as near the same as possible wherever I end up as I feel yo yo loss and gain is bad for me. I hope to cut down to one fast a week at some point to acheive this.
Welcome Mich37. I'll give you my experience but there's a lot of variety in how we decide on when to start maintaining and how to do it.

I used the Christmas challenge as my maintenance goal but in those six months since have gone another two kilos below this. If I do 6:1, daily weighing and mindful eating, I seem to be able to maintain within my weight range but by adding a second day I still lose weight. We're talking 200 grams or so, so not much but the progress tracker is still going down.

I always fast on Mondays and if my weight on Thursday morning is above 68kg I'll do another full one that day. Lately it hasn't been but I skip breakfast and lunch on Thursday and only have dinner (but don't count calories). Whatever the scales show on Friday morning goes into the progress tracker so there is an added incentive. Good luck!
Hi @Mich37

I think an acceptable range in weight is a lot better for one's sanity than trying to stick to a single number on the scales! See these articles on maintenance from the main FastDay site:
